The NFL Betrays...Me

I'm sure there are myriad threads on this NFL/Rush Limbaugh thing already, but I've had to sit and listen to the lies and half-truths of talk radio callers for the past hour. And I am floored by what I've heard. It has been a sad component of race relations the last fifty years in which some liberal African Americans, because they don't like a particular white individual, have to make up racist statements in order to demonize that individual. They did it with Elvis, claiming that The King said blacks weren't good for anything but shining his shoes and buying his records. They did it with Ronald Reagan claiming that his choice to give a speech on states' rights in Mississippi was code for racism.
Now they're doing it with Rush, and this time it's more blatant and craven than ever. Just listen to journalism professor Karen Hunter. If you can't watch the video, she first says, "I can just see the visions of plantation grandeur dancing in his head as we speak" regarding Rush's dream to own an NFL team. Then she says, "He even said that Dr. Martin Luther King, his killer, James Earl Ray should have a medal given to him, a medal of honor. He says, ‘We miss you, James.' You can go online as to the top 10 Rush Limbaugh racist comments."
I can't begin to express my contempt for such ignorant race baiting and professional misconduct. See, I have been accused of uttering racist remarks in the classroom, and until you've been on that side of it, you can't understand how enraged it can make you. This is someone recklessly attempting to destroy your reputation.
The NFL's apparent decision to not allow Rush to buy into the St. Louis Rams organization only gives weight to the lies. One sports writer puts it this way:
Notice that this "writer" accepts, uncritically, the notion that Rush has made racist statements and is somehow an enemy of African Americans. Worse, NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, does the same:

So, you can have spouse abusers as far as the eye can see, a dog murderer, drunk drivers galore and loud mouth, left-wing idiots to beat the bank, but the NFL "likes quite". And because Rush "doesn't do quiet" he gets no part of an NFL team.

I really do take this personally. Not only have I been on the receiving end of the racist charge, I have, in my wilder dreams, desired to own an NFL team. So what the NFL is saying is that a guy like me, holding the conservative values I hold can only hope to own a team as long as I don't antagonize the wrong people who're willing to make things up out of whole cloth. I'd better shut up right now about my politics if by some chance I become wealthy enough to buy a team.
This is a betrayal by the NFL. I've loved it since I was a child.
I'm not sure if I can watch it anymore.

If this keeps Rush from getting a team...well I just won't attend any more Cleveland Browns Games. And that is a hard thing for Cleveland Browns fan who only gets to see her favorite team when they play in San Diego to say.

I wouldn't go to a game in San Diego again if you paid me. (IMG:http://www.rightnation.us/forums/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
As for Rush suing, it'd be nice, but a major long shot. The blame, here, lies mostly with Goodell. He's the one who couldn't be bothered with simple fact checking.
On Rush's show this morning (well, its morning here when he's on) Rush indicated that there are already legal machinations being conducted on his part to pursue the slanderers. Good for him!

We can't let that happen because it's more than likely exactly what they want. We're dealing with people without a moral bone in their bodies.
I hear what you're saying, and you're right (I think). But it infuriates me to no end that they do not have a moral bone in their bodies, while we play by the Queen's rules, and get F'd in the process for doing so!
