Emeritus?

Posted by Joe the Pagan, Oct 18 2009, 01:50 PM

Why is it when you see Howard Zinn he gets to put emeritus after his name, but when you see a retired Military officer they just call him or her retired?

I still cannot figure out his appeal

Yesterday Ted Kennedy’s “autobiography” came out. I still cannot figure out why liberals loved him so much.

He got to where he was by privilege and his family’s vast fortune. He was a womanizer, throwing a waitress on top of Chris Dodd and then jumping on the poor woman himself.

I wonder if they are going to try the same stunt his nieces and nephews did when Jackie Onassis died. They paid income tax instead of the inheritance tax. At least they cannot try what they did with his mother. She had been living in Massachusetts for years, but when she died they listed her residence as Florida to get a break on the inheritance tax.

Is this what they mean by a classless society.

I heard Wanda Sykes comments at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner. For the last eight years we were told dissent was patriotic. Now the left is back in power it is suddenly wrong to disagree with the president.

What would have happened if someone on the right had made the joke that Ted Kennedy was the 20th hijacker? He failed to make the plane because he was too drunk after having another one of his liquid breakfasts. One could say he is a better candidate for this than Rush Limbaugh. Rush has never killed anyone and is not trying to block alternative sources of energy.

Before anyone complains about the mean things I am saying about Ted Kennedy I just want to point out that I did not say anything mean about him. I was just asking what if someone had said those things about him.

To paraphrase from a comedian who is actually funny. Wanda Sykes is like school in summer. No class.

Observations from the Biography Section

Posted by Joe the Pagan, May 6 2009, 01:56 PM

I was working today in the biography section of the bookstore. I noticed it has gone back to being books about people who accomplished something in life.

A few months ago many of the books had the same description on the back. Growing up one or both of my parents was crazy, and now I write or edit for a pop culture magazine.
This was similar to the phase the Biography Section went through earlier. At that point many of the jackets also had a similar description. If failed a following my dreams, and now I write or edit for a pop culture magazine about the subject I failed at.

The worse Science Fiction you have ever read

Posted by Joe the Pagan, Feb 15 2009, 03:52 PM

About a month ago I attended a Science Fiction convention. One of the panels they had was OMG Worst Book Ever! The panel was fun, but panelists were not big on audience participation.

The worse book I ever read was the Jesus Incident, written by Frank Herbert and Bill Ransom. The best way to describe the layout of the book is if the editor shuffled the chapters for two different books together in a haphazard way. The worse part of the book is that the ship, called Ship, is all-powerful and wants mankind to worship it. Unfortunately worship is spelled worShip. The main characters are constantly reminding each other and the reader that the must decide how to worShip.
