Tonight at the 2019 Grammy Awards, Alicia Keys opened the ceremony as the night’s host and brought out some special guests for the opening monologue: Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, and Jada Pinkett Smith, each of whom took the microphone to share what music means to them.

“From the Motown records I wore out on the south side to the ‘Who Run the World’ songs that have fueled me for this past decade, music has always helped me tell my story,” Obama said. “Music helps us share ourselves: our dignities, our sorrows, our hopes, our joys... Music shows us that all of it matters. Every story within every voice, every note within every song.”

And we should celebrate those things?

That flies in the face of the message shouted by foamy, frothy protester in the streets and the halls of the politics when the Kavanaugh hearings began and the Tampon Brigade who represented at the SOTU...

Good to know that the wealthy celebrities who lecture the general population on how their morals are lacking while also being racist and sexist have NO COMPUNCTION ignoring their own racism, sexism and blatant double standard on a national stage for all to see.

Not that their ignorant sheeple audience are capable of recognizing it, but the rest of us do...

Ignore pop, it hasn't been any cop, as we Brits say, for 20 years at least. A great pop song/band is a thing to cherish. I love my Zep and Sabbath, but equally love my ABBA and Bee Gees, or Culture Club. Last pop act(s) I liked were 90s. Since then, its been rock, dance music, indie, blues, jazz, world, and yes, some (earlier) hip hop and rap.

Plenty of good/excellent rock, indie, blues, jazz, hiphop/rap from young bands and artists. From the US, as well as the UK/Ireland, Europe, Canada, Aus/NZ. Some good 'world music' like Songhoy Blues from Africa. Some of the best stuff now mixes genres.

BS! There is some great new music out right now. However, the Grammy’s have always highlighted pop. Some of us just don’t like pop.

The Grammy’s have sucked for years.

I'm old--but I remembered we mocked the Grammy's years ago--probably in the 70's. They were always behind the trend.

Apparently the Grammys had the lowest viewing audience in their history...

Saw the blurb on the MSN homepage when I logged in.

It won't dawn on the media or the celebutards who both think that it's acceptable for them to lecture the viewing public and force their own personal agendas down their throats while making their speeches to realize that the viewing public, the people who BUY things at stores, aren't interested.

Exactly. There are more and more and more "awards" shows (the grammys, the oscars, the tonys, the emmys, the golden globes, the peoples choice, the BETs, and LOTS more), the "hosts" of these endless shows are getting more and more nasty and offensive, their speeches are getting more and more dishonest and anti-everything-sensible, and yet they wonder why fewer and fewer people bother to watch.

Morons.
