I have no idea where to post this topic--but since it's about a show on television I decided to place it in "media."
I am SO jazzed to announce the new season for Battle Bots: my guilty pleasure.

So far there have been two, 2 hour episodes, exciting matches, boring matches, surprising matches, and expected outcomes.

If you've got Discovery Channel in your house, watch it. 8:00 eastern Friday nights.

(He doesn't have a chance, but I'm rooting for "Duck.")

One of my guilty pleasures too! Yeehaw! That, and American Ninja Warrior. BOTH are beginning their new seasons.

:woohoo:

I'm a Tombstone fan. And he DOES have a chance...

I am impressed that Tombstone was redesigned with more tire protection.
But I have always been drawn to an underdog. And Tombstone is no underdog.

True. Tombstone is designed better, and built better, than most others. The horizontal spinning blade is simply the best design, and will always beat the hammers and the vertical blades and the fire-throwers and such.

I just read that it is filmed at Long Beach airport. (Filming was over the end of April.) Maybe next year we'll go watch one live.

No I used to watch these, but I pulled the plug, when Cox decided to go back to the cable box, now I only have internet. I try and catch up on these shows, yes I also watch Ninja Warrior, when they come out on free replays.

Yeah, I hadn't thought about that before, but you're right: You can always catch Ninja replays on some regular channel during the week or so following the "live" broadcast (or at least as "live" as you can get when watching something like that.)

The same just ain't true of Battlebots. :(

Or am I wrong about that? Does anybody know of any "regular" channel that plays Battlebot replays?

I like them too, but with a 3 year old I don't have much control over the remote anymore.

I'd put a stop to THAT right away, LOL, if I was you. Our (now-6-yr-old) grandson apparently grew up under the impression the TV remote was his. It was only very recently that Grampa (me) had to sit him down and firmly explain: "That's Grampa's, not yours. I might SOMETIMES let you use it IF you ASK politely first, but you NEVER, EVER just grab it and start pushing buttons. Grampa will be VERY angry if you do that. Do you understand?"

He did understand. He handed it back very quickly and quietly. He's such a GOOD kid.

I had some friends a few years ago who insisted they were going to make a battlebot. They had plans all drawn up to cut off the front section of a rotary lawn mower, then add some sort of "radio-controlled" drive and steering contraption. They got all offended when I laughed, but I notice they never finished the project.

Tell your grandson he wouldn't like you when you're angry, you turn green and roar a lot.

I used to watch it years ago when I had cable, not now. I always wanted someone to open a class where they used telepresence instead of sitting up overlooking the bots.

Yeah, LOL, he already uses the phrase "Hulk Smash!" occasionally, so I'm sure he'd grasp the "won't like me if I get angry" theme. But there's no need. He's my biggest fan. He hangs on my every word, and can't jump fast enough to do whatever I say. In fact, it's for that reason that I must be VERY careful not to even jokingly suggest anything untoward. He'd run off to do it before I could blurt out "Only kidding!" He'd do anything to avoid making me angry not because he'd fear punishment, but because it would break his heart to make Boppaw unhappy.

I watch it every now and then and would probably do it more often but my wife gives me static over how she can't believe I'm watching something so "silly," in hopes I'll quit and she can put on "90 Day Dance Moms" or whatever such highbrow and not-at-all-silly entertainment she wants to see using our cable's On Demand feature.

If I had cable I'd watch it. I was living in the UK when they started Robot Wars, the show the American Battlebots was based on. I watched it all the time. Some Robot Wars episodes are on Youtube if you'd like to compare.

I also like the British Scrapheap Challenge and it's American copy Junkyard Wars where they'd get teams of tinkerers (mechanics, engineers, etc.), give them a challenge (build an amphibious car to race, build something to knock down a brick wall, etc.), set them loose in a junk yard with a time limit, and then compete when they were done.
