I *think* they actually do that, similar to IRS liens. They don't exactly "strip" you of citizenship but you can't renew your passport. In MOST countries, an expired passport and €20/CNY 7.8 will get you a local stripper to show you her most personal places**.

Eta: (Yeah I stole ... "most personal places" from a Monty Python skit) I think it was from the "obligatory" album/cassette in the '70's/'80s.

I wonder how many people remember the story "The Man Without a Country"? That was required reading when I was in grade school (1950s).

I was thinking about that too.

How is this story even relevant today, he left the country in 2011, 3 years after Obama worked his magic and saved the world... :sarcasm:

Join the military! I joined the Reserves, had all my student loan paid for by Uncle Sam, GI Bill, and when I retire in a couple years I will have a little pension with Tricare when I turn 60. THERE ARE OPTIONS! Bunch of freaking whiners!

So now that I've read the whole article:
Teaching school in China is one (risky) way to make a lot of money. My daughter taught at an international school in China for 3 years. She made so much money she banked all her salary and lived off her housing allowance. This doof, Chad Albright, probably could have done the same thing. He COULD have paid back his student loans, but chose not to.

So I hope he has a great life in the Ukraine. We don't miss him at all. I was disappointed that he got to come back and visit his mother. I believe he shouldn't have been able to. Or at least, his possessions (except for his return ticket) should have been confiscated.
