Elijah Cummings' Widow Expected To Run For His House Seat

Fox News
By Brie Stimson
18 October 2019

Excerpt:

Maya Rockeymoore, widow of Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., and chairwoman of the Maryland Democratic Party, is expected to run for her late husband’s House seat, according to a report.

Rockeymoore has not yet said whether she plans to run, The Washington Examiner reported.

The Maryland Democratic Party released a statement that Rockeymoore would not be making announcements while she grieves.

"We ask the public and the press to allow Maryland Democratic Party Chair Dr. Maya Rockeymoore Cummings — and the rest of the Cummings family — time and space to grieve their loss,” the party said.

Rockeymoore, 48, has previously worked for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, served as chief of staff to former U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., and was a staffer on the House Ways and Means Committee. She also ran for governor in Maryland but dropped out when Cummings was hospitalized in 2018.

Hence my lack of “condolences to the grieving” in the thread announcing his reaching room temperature.

Yeah, let the widow and family 'grieve their loss".

But make damn sure you put her political title in there too!!

This is likely something they discussed, since he had been ill lately. This doesn't mean his wife and other loved ones aren't grieving his loss.

No doubt it was discussed but why go public so soon? (Oh, criticism of poor taste is limited to Trump.)

She's got bills to pay. Apparently, his outrageous Congressional pension isn't enough.

News flash geniuses: It's not HIS HOUSE SEAT. The Seat belongs to the people of Baltimore, they can vote for whom ever they want to fill it. It does not belong to the corpse nor to his wife nor to anyone else but the people that the seat represents. I am tired of this nonsense about "seats" belonging to anyone, they don't own them, they didn't make payments and they surely are not entitled to them. She wants it, she can run for it like everyone else.

Actually it belongs to the fine folks of the 7th Congressional District, of which I am one. They gerrymandered all of the districts so there is a slight edge in the “low to no information voters”. If we could get rid of the “necro-voting” things would begin to change as the “uninformed” voters are killing each other in record numbers.

As far as this chick goes, if the right person with the right “cred” decides to run she will lose.

Sadly that does little for the “Baltimore section” of the 7th.

Where I’m at we didn’t need Elijahs help or presence and we won’t need his predecessors either.

Even the title says she is expected to run for the seat. That means that the people in Cummings district get to choose her or pick someone else. She hasn't "inherited" anything, as far as this congressional seat is concerned, and hasn't actually said one way or the other.
