RightNation.US: The 1st Amendment no longer applies to me - RightNation.US

Apparently, the 1st amendment no longer applies to me since I am not a religious organization according to the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court has denied a request by Hobby Lobby to shield the company from the so-called contraceptive mandate while its legal battle plays out, after a federal court last week similarly ruled against the Christian-owned company.

The lower court had earlier refused to protect the company from an ObamaCare-tied requirement to provide contraceptive coverage, and the fines that come with it for not complying.

CEO David Green, who had taken his case to the appeals court after losing in a lower-court ruling, had argued that his family would have to either "violate their faith by covering abortion-causing drugs or be exposed to severe penalties."

The Supreme Court's latest ruling is not on the underlying merits of the mandate itself -- it simply denies the company's request for an injunction while legal battle on the merits plays out. There are currently more than 40 cases pending against that rule.

The mandate requires businesses and organizations, with some exceptions, to provide access to contraception coverage -- Hobby Lobby was most concerned about coverage for the morning-after pill, which some consider tantamount to an abortion-causing drug. Hobby Lobby has refused to comply, while saying the fines could add up to $1.3 million a day.

Thank you so much President Bush for Justice Roberts. It's so nice knowing that we elected a moderate so that the courts could moderately apply the Constitution to we the people. Silly me should have realized at the time that applying the Constitution moderately really meant that it would apply to some but not to all.

I guess the only way that the Constitution would go back to applying to me would be if I converted to Islam or became a secular humanist.

Elusively yours,

I was wondering. Since Obamacare violates the seperation of church and state, can religious groups use it as a precedence to bring prayer back into schools. If the left objects to prayer the religious groups can point to Obamacare as a defense.

Hmmmmm, maybe there is a positive side to all of this?

There is no positive side to becoming serfs to a government that is supposedly of, by and for you. Obama-care has enslaved every american and made them the express property of the government. I know there were precedents in the early 1900's of this theory being let out but this completely denies the right of an individual to care for themselves.

The excerpt from the linked comments specifically says "with some exceptions". I can't help being curious why Hobby Lobby DOESN'T qualify for such an exception.

FWIW Roberts had nothing to do with this particular ruling. Hopefully the lower court rules in Hobby Lobby's favor.

For the legal minds around here, the articles I read on this claim they didn't meet a specific high standard of the Supreme Court required for emergency injunctions. I couldn't find it online but what standard is required for an emergency injunction?

Hobby Lobby did not write the Obama campaign a check.

I have to look for bright spots wherever I can find else my State of the Union depression would overwhelm me.

I can't help myself. Ever since Roberts twisted common sense in the wind to come up with Obamacare being a tax in order to force it down our throats, I blame him for anything and everything. It's his fault I woke up at four this morning and could not go back to sleep!

And though I'm not a legal mind, I've always assumed that an emergency injunction would only be granted if there was a possiblity someone might not have to pay the extortion er fine.

With regards to folks covered by the insurance exchanges with govt subsidized premiums, we will ALL be paying for abortions and contraception just by coughing up our taxes. Am I wrong?

Nope. You're not wrong.

I'm growing more and more convinced that Obama's entire presidency is about sapping our strength. When I read that there were 40 pending cases about this one legal issue, it hit me how much money and man hours that represents. How long can religious conservatives contend with an opponent that has unlimited resources?

This is for The Lovely and Talented Ms Ilja I wonder if you could tell me why I can no longer comment on the "society and Culture" part of the site...did I get banned for something?

If you tried to post in the thread where I linked to this blog it would be because I closed that thread so that no one could post in it forcing folks to come out here in the Bloggerlands since we get so lonely out here. :giggle:

Other than that, you would need to take it up with a 'real' moderator and not just a 'blog moderator' like me. :D

I think God is trying to teach us something and we are just too stubborn to get it without being scrunched in the mud.

The Obama Administration is both hypocritical and inconsistent from one case to another when it comes to the fair and equal application of law - a standard of American jurisprudence.

In the name of religious freedom, it changes 200 years of federal law and insults most Americans by giving special permission to Indian tribes to hunt and kill the symbol of America - the Bald Eagle. Of course, white Americans cannot hunt Bald Eagles.

Yet, it tries to bring down Hobby Lobby because the owners of that business have a religious opposition to a minute part of ObamaCare.

Over the entrance to the U.S. Supreme Court building in Washington are chiseled in stone these words: "Equal Justice Under Law".

Obama has no respect for our constitution, and does not care about our laws. He wants to rule as a like a potentate...even though he is an impotent actor and thinker.

Honestly, this is the inevitable result of allowing the court to usurp our authority. No power to interpret or decide constitutionality of law was ever granted to SCOTUS. It stole the power that is rightfully ours way back in marbury v madison.
Also, what furrpiece said. Thanks to our cowardly congress who does nothing as Obama routinely usurps their authority and violates the constitution regularly.

A Doctor, A Lawyer, A Little Boy And A Priest
A doctor, a lawyer, a little boy and a priest were out for a Sunday afternoon flight on a small private plane. Suddenly, the plane developed engine trouble. In spite of the best efforts of the pilot, the plane started to go down. Finally, the pilot grabbed a parachute, yelled to the passengers that they had better jump, and then he bailed out.

Unfortunately, there were only three parachutes remaining. The doctor grabbed one and said "I'm a doctor, I save lives, so I must live," and jumped out.

The lawyer then said, "I'm a lawyer and lawyers are the smartest people in the world. I deserve to live." He also grabbed a parachute and jumped.

The priest looked at the little boy and said, "My son, I've lived a long and full life. You are young and have your whole life ahead of you. Take the last parachute and live in peace."

The little boy handed the parachute back to the priest and said, "Not to worry, Father. The 'smartest man in the world' just took off with my back pack."

John Mauldin relates the details of a conversation he had with John Boehner, the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

At the :50 Maudlin describes Boehner telling him that Obama has,
“…balls made out of marshmallows…”

If that is true, why do we see Boehner continually backing down and rolling over while Obama stands firm and never compromises?

NEVER FORGET!

Staff Sgt. Matt Maupin’s long road home ended Saturday in a blaze of yellow ribbons, the silent tribute of people who lined the roads, and the respect of thousands more who filed past his coffin at a public visitation . . . “If four people showed up, that’s OK with me,” said Keith Maupin, the soldier’s father, as he took a mid-afternoon break outside the Civic Center, where many came up to him to shake his hand or give him a hug . . . Matt Maupin became the face of the war in Iraq for thousands here and across the country in April 2004, when an Arab TV station aired a tape showing the Union Township soldier kneeling and surrounded by masked men carrying automatic rifles . . .Four years and millions of prayers later, a tip from an Iraqi citizen led U.S. soldiers to the farm area northwest of Baghdad where Matt Maupin’s remains were found on March 20 . . .Scoutmaster David Bacon said the boys of Troop 511 had been well aware of the story of Matt Maupin and wanted to pay their own tribute.“I’ve talked to them many times about Matt,” said Bacon, whose cousin, Lance Cpl. David Kreuter, was killed in Iraq in 2005. “They understand it was the sacrifice of young men like Matt that gives us the freedom to meet every Monday night. There are places in the world where Boy Scouting is not allowed.” http://i147.photobuc.../3yqo3h0.gifPFC Keith Matthew MaupinCaptured in IraqApril 9, 2004

We Owe Them So Much

http://i147.photobuc.../troopsspin.gifNever Mind the Cost by c.m.steppe ©2001 There's a young man far from home, Called in time of war; Sent to defend our freedom On some distant foreign shore. On some distant foreign shore. We pray You keep him safe, We pray You keep him strong, We pray You send him safely home ... For he's been away so long. For he's been away so long. There's a young woman far from home, Serving U.S.A. with pride. Her every step is strong and sure, Courage in every stride. Courage in every stride. We pray You keep her safe, We pray You keep her strong, We pray You send her safely home ... For she's been away too long. For she's been away too long. Bless those who wait their safe return. Bless those who mourn the lost. Bless those who serve this country well, Never mind the cost. Never mind the cost. God, Bless America!

An Email From God?

I got this in an email today and though it doesn't say who wrote it, I don't doubt these things could have happened.'MEET ME IN THE STAIRWELL' You say you will never forget where you were when you heard the news On September 11, 2001. Neither will I. I was on the 110th floor in a smoke filled room with a man who called his wife to say 'Good-Bye.' I held his fingers steady as he dialed. I gave him the peace to say, 'Honey, I am not going to make it, but it is OK..I am ready to go.' I was with his wife when he called as she fed breakfast to their children. I held her up as she tried to understand his words and as she realized he wasn't coming home that night. I was in the stairwell of the 23rd floor when a woman cried out to Me for help. 'I have been knocking on the door of your heart for 50 years!' I said. 'Of course I will show you the way home - only believe in Me now.' I was at the base of the building with the Priest ministering to the injured and devastated souls. I took him home to tend to his Flock in Heaven. He heard my voice and answered. I was on all four of those planes, in every seat, with every prayer. I was with the crew as they were overtaken. I was in the very hearts of the believers there, comforting and assuring them that their faith has saved them. I was in Texas , Virginia , California , Michigan , Afghanistan ... I was standing next to you when you heard the terrible news. Did you sense Me? I want you to know that I saw every face. I knew every name - though not all know Me. Some met Me for the first time on the 86th floor. Some sought Me with their last breath. Some couldn't hear Me calling to them through the smoke and flames; 'Come to Me... this way... take my hand.' Some chose, for the final time, to ignore Me. But, I was there. I did not place you in the Tower that day. You may not know why, but I do. However, if you were there in that explosive moment in time, would you have reached for Me? Sept. 11, 2001, was not the end of the journey for you. But someday your journey will end. And I will be there for you as well. Seek Me now while I may be found. Then, at any moment, you know you are 'ready to go.' I will be in the stairwell of your final moments.
