Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: How Can We Afford My Proposals? ‘I Find The Question So Puzzling…’

Excerpt:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez gave an interview to Jorge Ramos last Thursday in which she was asked how she would pay for her agenda. Ocasio-Cortez didn’t even try to explain how she would pay for Medicare for all or free college tuition, she just said people would pay.

“In a modern, moral and wealthy society, no person should be too poor to live,” Ocasio-Cortez said when asked to define her Democratic Socialism. “We should treat healthcare, housing, and education as rights,” she said, adding, “I believe we should guarantee a basic level of human dignity in America.”

Jorge Ramos then asked specifically about several of her proposals. “Medicare for all, is it too expensive?” Ramos asked.

“No, people often say, like, how are you going to pay for it and I find the question so puzzling because ‘How do you pay for something that’s more affordable? How do you pay for cheaper rent?’ You just pay for it. We’re paying more now.”

This is a common claim made by supporters of Medicare for All, i.e. that it would be cheaper than our current health care costs. This claim got a big boost this summer when a paper published by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University included a version of Bernie Sanders’ plan which showed it would save $2 trillion if adopted. Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez were two of the socialists pushing this claim. But the author of the paper says the whole point was that Sanders’ assumptions about the cuts to providers are a fantasy that is unlikely to happen anytime soon. If you don’t assume those cuts then Sanders’ Medicare for All plan actually costs about $32 trillion dollars over 10 years. Every fact-checker that looked at the claims agreed that the conclusions of the paper were being misrepresented. I guess Ocasio-Cortez didn’t get the message.

Jorge Ramos next question is how the U.S. will pay for free college tuition. Here again, Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t have much of an answer. “We already pay for tuition-free K thru 12 and in the same way that we made a decision as a country to say ‘We need to educate people to a 12th grade level,’ our economy has evolved and that means we need to make the decision to educate people to a trade school or collegiate level,” she said. Again, the question wasn’t why should we do it, it was how can we afford it. Ocasio-Cortez just says we can do it if we want to. I guess that’s true if people are willing to see their taxes go up dramatically.

She can't clearly define how she could make single payer a simple plan, given that she's supposed to have a degree in economics, and yet we're supposed to buy her bag of magic beans?

Sorry, her bullshidt don't impress me and she sure as shidt don't deserve any votes.

I have the distinct impression that many, many things puzzle her and will continue to do so.

As for her "degrees", clearly not worth the paper on which they're printed.

From the part of the article that wasn't excerpted:

However, should all else fail, Ocasio-Cortez detailed her ace in the hole.

"Once I'm inaugurated as our nation's next Senator-Congresswoman, like, I'll be in control of the U.S. Mint, right? So, I'll just issue an executive order for an expedited printing of eleventy gillion dollars, or however much is needed, OK? Like, duhhhh..."

"Who are those little people who live inside my TV, and where do they go when I change the channel?"

"How come some months have 31 days, while others only have thirty? There's even one (I think it's called "Frederick") that only has 28! Or was it 29? I forget."

"If money doesn’t grow on trees then why do banks have branches?"

"If an orange is orange, why isn’t a lime called a green or a lemon called a yellow?"

"If the #2 pencil is the most popular, why’s it still #2?"

Crazy Eyes!

This gal is stooped. She gets dumber every time I hear her interviewed and I didn’t think that was possible. It is so freaking scary to think that we can have people like her and Andrew Gillum and Ilhan Omar in office. People that are either dumb as rocks or completely corrupt and people vote them into office anyway. At least there is a chance Gillum will lose. The other two are probably a lock. SMH

They will pay for all of this stuff by the taxing the rich.

They rich will either pay it or they won’t.

If they pay it, then yay. Free stuff.

If they don’t pay it, it means they have shut down their businesses and moved out of the country.

This sort of free stuff taxation pretty much depends on how long rich people are willing to put up with it all. And not much else.

She seems to be on the level with the guy that thought Guam would capsize if more military units were stationed there.

What a total maroon!

I'm sure she can't wait until after her inauguration so she can start signing her bills into law.

I predict that Occasional-Cortex will be a one-and-done. I'm even giving odds that she will quit before the end of her first term.

If you think such things are expensive NOW, just wait until they're "Free".

Can't remember who originally said that. Was it Reagan?

THAT SAID, I'm willing to entertain the idea of "free" college... WITHIN bounds.

I have a dog in the fight: 2/3 of my undergrad was paid for by the US Navy. 100% of my MS was paid for by the German Multinational I worked for at the time.

The bounds: When I worked for the Germans, proviso was that they approved it IF it was career-path related. I chose "Applied Physics" and got approved. If I'd have chosen "Lesbian Vogon Poetry" or some such, probably not.

And, YES, both the US Navy and the German Multinational got their "Money's Worth" out of me.

IMHO, THAT'S how it SHOULD be.

You've been watching WAY too much Gallagher. Or maybe Steven Wright.

My own favorite: "Why do pants come in pairs but a bra is singular?"

She mostly likely went to a progtard college, so her degree is most likely in utter stupidity and cluelessness.

In other words, a freaking willful retard.
