Panera's Socialist Pay-What-You-Want Restaurant Implodes: Students, Homeless Mob The Place

"The Portland-based Panera Cares was reportedly only recouping between 60 and 70 percent of its total costs," reports Eater. "The losses were attributed to students who 'mobbed' the restaurant and ate without paying, as well as homeless patrons who visited the restaurant for every meal of the week. The location eventually limited the homeless to 'a few meals a week.'"

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs. I don’t get it. What’s the problem?

The problem is that democrats/lefties/proggies/socialists are <censored>ing idiots. It always amazes me that they manage to get their pants on before their shoes, get their shoes tied, and then remember to breathe regularly.

The left's detachment from reality is staggering. We can add this example to their belief that a Universal Basic Income will make people work more.

If they were just limited to being idiots, I’d be ok with that, but they’re also evil and destructive and selfish and power hungry and petty and ....

Yep. A true collectivist system would let them eat for "free", but tax them if they tried to leave.

Years ago a place called Sweden House opened in Gainesville. It was an all you can eat place for one price. It took the gator nation about 6 months to eat them out of business.

I'm surprise that these experimental locations lasted as long as they did.

And I remember that MA, a hopelessly left-wing state, passed some legislation to enable MA taxpayers to pay more in taxes, if they felt they were being under taxed and, as you might guess, there were very few takers.

Barney Frank, then a MA Congressman, was even asked if he had paid more in taxes and he said, no, because he wouldn't like how it'd be spent.

This is what soup kitchens are for. Hungry ‘students’ would be much less inclined to invade those spaces for a free meal.

I bet those same "students" all have the latest smartphones, though, as well as either tablets or laptop computers and all the other crap that they don't need.

Soup kitchens aren't trendy or cool and the students taking advantage can pay, they just don't want to.

We have one here in downtown Hagatna. It's only a block from my office. At 5pm when I'm leaving my office, they open and there is usually a dozen homeless waiting for entrance. Recently however, two rather well-fed student types (always typing on their phones, of course), have joined the waiting crowd. They're well-kept, look healthy, and decently dressed, and as such, stand out amongst the crowd. I'm half-tempted to stop and shame them.

If you do, be prepared for tears and shouts of being triggered...

Hmmm soup kitchens have been all but run out in most places because they can't comply with State Laws about cleanliness and food preparation requirements of a for profit restaurant.

https://www.macon.co...le28643551.html

The idiot claim is "they want to force these places to provide safe food". Is it safer than someone finding rotten food in a garbage and eating it? I would think so. This stupidity is getting out of control.

If someone tries to beat a drum in your face, take their banger away and use it to defuse the situation in a non musical way...
