I'd have to say it was the opposite for the Battle of Little Big Horn when Custer was killed. We were always told he was an arse hole(in other words though). He was never celebrated during my time in school. Though he was from a town 1/2 hour north of me and they have a few statues and monuments of him around the city. I'd imagine their schools have painted a bit of a different picture.

Sure do. He was a teacher whose passion was American History and one of his hobbies was taking trips following the Lewis & Clark expedition trail to get a feel for their trek as much as you can in the modern world.
