EXCERPT

Perennial presidential candidate Lyndon LaRouche dies at 96

Lyndon LaRouche, a notorious conspiracy theorist who ran for president eight times — once from prison — on platforms asserting that Queen Elizabeth II was a drug dealer and that numerous top government officials were Soviet agents, has died, his political organization confirmed Wednesday.

He was 96.
The group, LaRouche PAC, didn't report a cause of death in an announcement that trumpeted the "big ideas for which history will honor him."
He certainly had big ideas.
LaRouche, who had been a Marxist but evolved into a hard-right conservative, was one of the great odd characters of American political life during the second half of the 20th century, inspiring a following of "LaRouchies" who tirelessly picketed political rallies of all stripes demanding that their leader's claims be heard.

<break>

In 1988, LaRouche was convicted of mail fraud and tax evasion; he was paroled in 1994. That didn't stop him from running in the Democratic presidential primaries in 1992, however.
Jim Bakker, the disgraced evangelist who served time with him in the same prison, said in a 2004 interview with The Washington Post that LaRouche received a daily intelligence report from followers in his cell, which LaRouche believed was bugged.
"To say that Lyndon was slightly paranoid would be like saying the Titanic had a bit of a leak," Bakker said.

The whole thing

I still see the LaRouchies by the post office. They openly support Trump, Putin, and Xi Jinping. In 1976 he bought a half hour of prime time air time on NBC and gave a VERY intellectual and reasonable-sounding speech full of conspiracy theories that would have made the Birchers look sane. Strange. I did not think it possible for someone to sound rational while calmly saying things that were totally bat f[ornicat]ing crazy.

I donated money several times in the early '80s to his Fusion Energy Foundation, one of his more lucid ideas, which especially in the energy crisis of the '70s was heavility into promotiong constuction of nuclear power plants and ongoing fusion research.

He was a character, for sure.

From the article.

Quote

In addition to his thoughts about the United Kingdom and its queen, LaRouche espoused other bizarre theories that managed to encompass extreme elements of both the left and the right, including that:

Jews control the pornography trade, and the Holocaust was a hoax.
Wall Street is a cancer.
Only the restraining influence of the U.S. military has prevented successive presidents from launching a nuclear war.
People with the HIV virus that causes AIDS should be quarantined from the rest of the population.
Global warming is a fraud.
The United Nations, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank are antithetical to the Platonic ideal of a "perfectly sovereign nation-state republic."
And so forth.

Settled science, don't ya know.

Love how they threw that one in there as a "bizarre" theory. <_<

Okay, just because LaRouche WAS a character, and was a hoot, and just for the sake of discussion, I'll take it point by point:

- "Jews control the pornography trade..." No, "Control" is not the right word. But they DO seem to be vastly over-represented in Hollywood (INCLUDING porn) and also the Media in General. I don't see it as any sort of "Grand Conspiracy" but it does seem to be a statistical anomaly.

- "...and the Holocaust was a hoax." Oh puh-lease. I'm not one who bows towards Jerusalem every day, and I'm fully mindful that 'Policy' should be made in Washington ( :puke: ) rather than Tel Aviv, but even *I* don't buy into this.

- "Wall Street is a cancer." I can almost see his point of view.

- Global warming is a fraud. Global Warming Happens. That it's man-made is the fraud. I'll go 1/2 on this.

- "Only the restraining influence of the U.S. military has prevented successive presidents from launching a nuclear war." Probably more the restraining influence of "Public Opinion".

- "People with the HIV virus that causes AIDS should be quarantined from the rest of the population." No argument here. SERIOUSLY. As a fan of '70s B-movies, if two of the fairer sex want to get get their jollies, my only question is, "Can I watch?". Just don't go all man-hating N.O.W. diesel-dyke about it. But... two guys? Ewwww. Just... Ewww. I mean, if one guy wants to stick an appendage into another guys hole that is meant for [excrement]? Well, don't come cryin' to me when your health becomes [excrement]-y because of it.

- The United Nations, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank are antithetical to the Platonic ideal of a "perfectly sovereign nation-state republic." Seriously: Is there ANYONE here on RN who can argue against?

Was LaRouche a "God", or even a "Guru". NO, not by any stretch. But DID he have something worth listening to, if you can separate the wheat from the chaff? Yes, I believe he did.

- "... and the Holocaust was a hoax". Is he frickin' kidding me?
