TheLeague of Ordinary Gentlemen introduced Book Club: Plato “The Symposium” as a topic for discussion.

Although it has been many years since I last spoke Greek… (Who is giggling? Stop that right now!)… Jason Kuznicki’s wry and witty contribution was tickling, sublime, with just the right mix of Monty Python and All Grown Up. After all, who can resist:

A Plea for Alcibiades, or, How to Philosophize with a Bottle

[…] “What shall we say,” asked the Epicurean, “about the Symposium?”

“In the 21st century, we are like the last of the dialogue’s speakers. There’s little left to say,” said the Stoic.

“That rhetorical trope was ancient when Socrates used it,” said the Cynic. “It’s amazing how people grow more verbose, not less, as history moves on. Decent folk would shut up already.”

As much as I would like to proffer some favored highlights… I don’t want to ruin it for you.
