Teachers may be educating the future of America, but they are often underpaid, underappreciated, and overworked. Julie Marburger, a sixth-grade teacher at Cedar Creek Intermediate School in Texas, went viral after she aired her frustrations with students, parents, and administrators on Facebook. The post was later deleted.

I left work early today after an incident with a parent left me unable emotionally to continue for the day. I have already made the decision to leave teaching at the end of this year, and today, I don't know if I will make it even that long. Parents have become far too disrespectful, and their children are even worse. Administration always seems to err on the side of keeping the parent happy, which leaves me with no way to do the job I was hired to do...teach kids.


I am including photos that I took in my classroom over the past two days. This is how my classroom regularly looks after my students spend all day there. Keep in mind that many of the items damaged or destroyed by my students are my personal possessions or I purchased myself, because I have NO classroom budget. I have finally had enough of the disregard for personal and school property and am drawing a line in the sand on a myriad of behaviors that I am through tolerating. Unfortunately, one parent today thought it was wrong of me to hold her son accountable for his behavior and decided to very rudely tell me so, in front of her son.

Marburger included these photos of her classroom in disarray, including torn up text books, broken bookshelves, and a piece of chewed-up gum stuck to a window.

Report cards come out later this week, and I have nearly half of my students failing due to multiple (8-10) missing assignments. Most of these students and their parents haven't seemed to care about this over the past three months, though weekly reports go out, emails have been sent and phone calls have been attempted.


But now I'm probably going to spend my entire week next week fielding calls and emails from irate parents, wanting to know why I failed their kid. My administrator will demand an explanation of why I let so many fail without giving them support, even though I've done practically everything short of doing the work for them. And behavior in my class will deteriorate even more. I am expecting this, because it is what has happened at the end of every other term thus far.

Marburger explained that it was her dream to be a teacher, but in just two short years, the job has beaten her down so much that she is ready to call it quits.

In the end, Marburger offered a little advice to parents:

People absolutely HAVE to stop coddling and enabling their children. It's a problem that's going to spread through our society like wildfire. It's not fair to society, and more importantly, is not fair to the children to teach them this is okay. It will not serve them towards a successful and happy life. Many will say I shouldn't be posting such things on social media...that I should promote education and be positive. But I don't care anymore. Any passion for this work I once had has been wrung completely out of me. Maybe I can be the voice of reason. THIS HAS TO STOP.

Before it was deleted, Marburger's Facebook post was shared over 350,000 times, and garnered tons of support from fellow educators who sympathize with her position.

I believe it. My girlfriend is a certified paraeducator (basically an official teacher's assistant and occasional substitute teacher), but gave it up years ago. There just isn't any discipline in schools anymore, and teachers aren't allowed to impose discipline.

She's very good with children, including getting them to shut up and behave, but discovered in public school settings she'd get in trouble for it. She often came home in tears, and I'm glad she gave it up. And frankly I feel sorry for today's students. The schools are doing them no favors by spoiling them like this.

This is because these kid's parents were allowed to be little terrors themselves, allowed to run free and do whatever they wanted with no consequences. They (the parents) needed to be spanked then and they really need it now. They have passed along their bad behavior to their kids and they deserve to be slapped across their mouth for their belligerent behavior now defending their little punk brat's own bad behavior.

I have family members who have driven school buses for decades and they have since quit because the kids now are always out of control and they are not allowed to touch or even yell at them to make them behave. They are supposed to absorb all abuses from these little punks, be spat upon, hit, pinched, shoved, punched, verbally abused and not have anything to say about it. Here in Jefferson county, they are still short almost 300 drivers because nobody wants the job.

We can blame these last several generations of progtard parents who don't believe in spanking their brats and teaching them that they are all entitled to dish out abuse upon others just because they feel like it. Being "buddies" with their brats, everyone gets a trophy, time outs, no spankings... etc. making them all into the whiny crybaby temper tantrum throwing snowflakes that we see so much of now.

This teacher is exactly like many that I know in growing tired of putting up with all of the bullshidt and with the proggy school boards always favoring these little bastards and dismissing their bad behavior.

All of that time, money and effort wasted in going to college to get a degree to become a teacher?

Unless this bullshidt is put to a stop, this country is doomed.

Back when I was a kid, we didn't have any need for "resource officers" in schools because of hard discipline and accountability we rarely acted up in school. Now days they need the cops at every school to do what these stupid progtard parents should have done themselves with their little brats.

It's one of my all time favorites too.

The show instilled/demonstrated great moral values and ethics that are now considered to be old fashioned, outdated, uncool/unhip these days by Hollyweird progtards.
But in real life, Andy Griffith was every bit the democrap progtard, even endorsed and did a TV commercial for Obamunistcare. But he was still a good actor and his show is still one of the greatest ever because it had very creative and talented writers as well as talented character/actors.

My TV pretty much stays tuned to MeTV all day and night anymore.
There is nothing else on that's any better or worth watching.

TV as well as movies full of progtardism since the 60's have brainwashed the public and has encouraged people to abandon proper morals and proper behavior and it's showing up more and more with every generation.
Bad parents raising bad children for several generations and it isn't getting any better.

I'm so glad we make the investment to send Jordan to a high-end private school. ALL the parents are heavily invested in their child's education, and expect the best effort from them, the school administration and faculty. Jordan will graduate next year having attended from 2nd grade, and will be well prepared for her university years.

A recent event to demonstrate her maturity. At 2:00 the morning after Thanksgiving I experienced a seizure caused by a brain tumor (had no idea it was there). While waiting for the EMTs to arrive Jordan and I made to a chair in the dining room, where she just sat holding me telling me it was going to be okay. I was experiencing some significant left side tremors at the time; she had to be incredibly upset. But she kept her cool. She's 16. If she were attending the public schools in the area (they're not bad) I doubt she would have been able to keep it together for us both as she did.

The school was incredibly supportive; semester exams were 2 weeks away, but they told her to do what was best for her and the family. Homework and test schedules were adjusted so she could be where she needed to be and adjust to all the emotional issues. The Upper School Dean told her not to worry about school -- they would make everything work out. And they did. I'm not certain a public school would have shown the flexibility and compassion needed to make all this happen in the student's best interest.

As an aside I'm recovering well -- still dealing with some post operative treatments and other health issues uncovered during the pre-operative exams. Like I told Jordan that night -- "We're going to kick this thing in the ass!". . .

You’re correct. In real life, Griffith was just another Hollywood socialist wannabe, unfortunately. So is Opie – he is worse. But the show is good and at least I am able to watch it and overlook their politics.

And in my family, my mom had harder discipline and accountability! We knew whatever punishment we got at school would be nothing to what faced us at home.

Unfortunately, this isn't new, but probably much more prevalent now. I attended a Catholic high school in the mid-80s and I remember my religion teacher telling me a story about a kid cheating on one of his tests. Prior to taking the test, the teacher stepped out of the class for just a few minutes. During this time, the punk kid noticed the answers to the multiple choice questions for the text on the teacher's desk (probably shouldn't have been there to tempt students, but that's another discussion). He got up, walked to the teacher's desk, picked up the answer key for the test, and tried to memorize all of the answers. After the test, one of the other students in the class told the teacher what had happened while he was briefly gone. Long story short, when the punk kids parents came in to discuss the cheating with the principle and teacher, they said their kid "inadvertently" saw the test on the teacher's desk while he was just looking for a pencil. That punk kid learned a lesson that day...lying works (he wasn't kicked out of school and was allowed to retake the test rather than getting an F) and his POS parents would support him in his lying no matter how obvious he was lying. I don't know what that punk kid did with his life, but something tells me he's no model citizen.

Yup. One of my favorite movies. I could probably quote line-for-line at least half of the scenes.

It's important to note that the movie takes place in the "problem" school of the district, not in a "typical" school. In fact, there's even one segment of the movie that does take place in a typical school in those days, in order to establish the contrast.

The reason I don't have the whole series is that after Opie grew older, and after Don Knotts left the show, it just lost all its attraction for me.

Yeah, no kidding. My father (and mother) would support what the school did and believed them when they said I'd done something wrong. Didn't happen often, but also my dad would punish me harder if I came home and tried to lie or talk my way out of it. No, I didn't do that, they're wrong was not the right answer. I seldom got in trouble, last time I can recall I was throwing rocks at another kid with a couple of other boys. They spanked my backside at school and I got punished again at home.

Seemed to work. Never been arrested or in any trouble. You an be a freak but it's best to be a stealth freak, fit in when needed and be a freak on your own time, you life will be much smoother and happier.

That’s true enough. After the 5th season it was lame. Don Knotts was a huge loss. Actually, now that I think of it, I think my disk set only goes through the 5th season. I know that it has at least the 5th season because another of my favorite episodes is The Education of Earnest T. Bass. But there aren’t any color episodes on it.
