Why not simply promote Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein? Perhaps because of this:

"It does not take a lawyer or even a former federal prosecutor like myself to conclude that investigating Donald Trump’s finances or his family’s finances falls completely outside of the realm of his 2016 campaign and allegations that the campaign coordinated with the Russian government or anyone else. That goes beyond the scope of the appointment of the special counsel" --Matthew Whitaker (August 6, 2017)

Comey...McCabe...Sessions - I guess it can't be a Saturday Night Massacre if it happens slowly over a period of months.

Because Rosenstein is a proven traitor and cannot be objective in the position he holds now, but you know that, which is why you are championing him.

I was so wrong...Sessions was awful

It's difficult not to think that but then again, I'm fairly sure there's an awful lot of information to which we're not privy

Do you really think that any of that privileged information is enough to excuse the disaster his tenure was in the position?

Am I the only one who's noticed how little time Trump gave Democrats to celebrate the election, all the talk now is on Session's resignation. What, we had an election? Oh yeah, that was this morning's news...

Probably because he isn't remotely obligated to do so and as President he is entitled to choose the people who serve him based on whether they share his policy interests?

My theory is that since Sessions was recused from the investigations, he theoretically had no idea what all was found or how involved Rosenstein is, etc. Now the new AG, temporary or otherwise will suddenly review this information and immediately pick up where we have been waiting for Sessions to all along.

Sessions was bit of a wet noodle. Hopefully next guy has more of a backbone.

I'm scratching my head, though. Timing seems a bit odd.

The day AFTER a mid-term??? What the F## did Sessions have to do with the mid-terms??? That's when you fire your "strategists", "consultants", et al.

I'm with NH populist on this one regarding the timing.
Suck up some, if not most, of the talk oxygen.
Don't let the dem's have hours and hours of talk tv 'news' time to gloat and threaten.
Clever dude that MR Trump!!

Gregg Jarrett predicted this ouster, the day after the election, weeks ago.

And what a pathetic nebbish Jeff Sessions turned out to be.

Good riddance!

Look I like Gowdy, but unless I missed it, he talks the good talk, but never got anything done besides talk.

Or maybe, JUST MAYBE, it's because Rosenstein suggested last year that he secretly record President Trump in the White House to expose the chaos consuming the administration, and he discussed recruiting cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Mr. Trump from office for being unfit.

Why would Trump want anyone like that on his team?

If the Special Counsel issues a report during the lame duck session, Trump wants it delivered to someone other than Rosenstein.

That's just your opinion. Trump never said anything to that effect.

Regarding the timing, it's much more likely that Trump asked for Sessions resignation after the midterms because doing it before would have energized the democrat voters.

Regarding the resignation itself, that has a lot to do with Sessions never pursuing the obvious crimes of the democrats. Trump HAS said many things to that effect.
