Suspect in David Ortiz Shooting Also Wanted for Attempted Murder in Pennsylvania, Officials Say

Published Jun 12, 2019 at 11:11 PM | Updated 3 hours ago
A suspect in the shooting of Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz is also wanted for plotting to shoot a man to death in Pennsylvania last year, officials confirmed.

Luis Rivas-Clase, 31, of Reading, Pennsylvania, is charged with conspiracy to commit homicide in connection to a shooting that took place on the 900 block of North Front Street in Reading back on April 22, 2018, in which a man was shot in the lower back. The victim survived his injuries.

Rivas-Clase allegedly threatened to kill the victim a few days prior to the incident. Police also said Rivas-Clase conspired with another suspect to shoot the man.

The Berks County Sheriff’s Department told NBC10 they believe Rivas-Clase is one of the four suspects who are wanted in connection to the shooting of former Red Sox superstar Ortiz at a bar in Santo Domingo Sunday night.

Witnesses said the shooting was carried out by two men on a motorcycle, assisted by two other groups of people in cars.

The alleged gunman, Rolfi Ferreira Cruz, and five accomplices were taken into custody, Dominican officials announced Wednesday. Cruz is also a suspect in multiple robberies in Clifton, New Jersey, according to a report.

Remember, we invaded the Dominica Republic in 1965 because of political assassinations to a hard-line dictator (but anti-commie) and potential commie influence there, Pres Johnson was criticized for using gun-boat diplomacy but post Cuba and POS Castro and Che he would not take that chance.

Kind of wondering how this guy is so well traveled. Is he a contract guy? Remember when this first happened it was reported as a robbery that ended with a gunshot to the leg. Whole lotta stuff going on here.

Always wondered if there's "Paul Harvey, Page Two" story here. Football names don't normally get targeted for 'hits' unless there a little something-something going on that we all don't (yet) know about.

As a south Floridian, may I speak freely? I can't think of ANY reason for any American to visit DR but for certain 'personal' services that may be considered 'illegal' in most jurisdictions outside of Nevada (And this applies to BOTH Genders. And to Rush Limbaugh as well).

Want the BEST of a Caribbean experience? Even on a budget? Martinique. Guadalupe. Virgin Islands, even (USVI or BVI). Bahamas, if you want the Disney-fied version.

EtA: Martinique will ALWAYS have a place in my heart. At 14/15YO tried to run away and join the French Foreign Legion. Closest recruitment center was in Martinique. I had enough saved up to get me from southern Indiana to Cincinnati OH where SURELY there was a French embassy that would spot me a ticket the rest of the way. Well, there wasn't, even though I know every movement of the 1812 overture and all the words to Le Marsellaise." LOL.

Fortunately, two years later the US Navy had an opening.

(Yeah, I know, the above was British but, hey, I'm not picky about allegiance.)

Plus Martinique was the scene of a volcanic eruption that wiped out the island save one guy in a jail cell. Probably won't happen again...

I think the tabloids were speculating that he was carrying on with the wife of some crime lord there
