I agree the above is true, in most cases. Cats are more independent. They both love but in different ways.

I saw a video recently where a neighbor dog was attacking a child. The child's cat ferociously leaped at the dog, and chased him home. Then the cat came back to check on the child, and then went back to attacking the dog. The cat did this several times - checking on the child and attacking the dog. You just never know.
