John Singleton, Pioneering Director Of 'Boyz N The Hood,' Dies At 51

Boyz N The Hood was only his first film. He's has a long directorial career, even for someone his age. I'm not an 'action' fan, but I've enjoyed a few of his movies, including the first.

51 is way too young. RIP

Not particularly a "fan" though I do think his film Rosewood (1997) was hugely under-rated. A quality film with a near-A-list cast: Jon Voight, Ving Rhames, Don Cheadle. Unfortunately, it had a first-run audience of approximately 6 people, 5 of whom were probably just critics reviewing it.

Oh man, Peggy Lipton was one of my biggest crushes in the late 60's.

(And I never knew she was married to Quincy Jones.)

I loved watching the Mod Squad as a kid and I used to run around outside with my long hair down and swing around the corners to try and get my hair to do the Peggy Lipton Swing...

What a miserable mother's day for her children...

97 is a good run. May we all be as fortunate.
The Man Who Knew Too Much is one of my favorite movies.

RIP

You ought to listen to the version of Que Sera Sera by the group Pink Flamingo. It's sung in this very slow, minor diminished key...turns it from a song about naive optimism into one of existential dread, all by way of key change, not word change. Brilliant.

But, RIP to Doris Day, a true icon, and a woman who always tried to make us believe in the goodness of life. A true legend and deserving of being called such.

I just searched for that version. I'm convinced you meant "Pink Martini", not "Pink Flamingo". Found one by "Pink Martini" that fit your description perfectly. Couldn't find any version by "Pink Flamingo".

Duh...you’re right, it’s Pink Martini. What do you think of their version? Creepy eh?

I loved it. Creepy indeed. Much more to my standard tastes than the Doris Day version.

Tim Conway, aged 85. RIP. I remember the skits on The Carol Burnett show where Harvey Korman could not keep from laughing at Conway's antics. Very understated funny guy.
