Democrats Are Getting Out On A Dangerously Left-Wing Limb

RealClearPolitics
By Michael Barone
March 01, 2019

Excerpt:

There's an old political saying that presidential candidates appeal to their parties' wings -- left for Democrats, right for Republicans -- in the race for the nomination and then appeal to the center in the general election campaign. It was put in canonical form by Richard Nixon, one of only two Americans our major parties nominated for national office five times (the other was Franklin Roosevelt).

The dozen or so already announced Democratic candidates seem to be following Nixon's rule, and with more reckless abandon than Nixon ever did. Maybe they figure that whoever gets the Democratic nomination will inevitably beat Donald Trump. After all, no one they ever talk to would vote for him.

But a skewed sample can produce misleading results. If President Trump's job approval hasn't risen above 44 percent level since March 2017, it has not fallen below 40 percent either this year or last. That's about where opinion was when he got elected. And remember that his national rating is depressed by 2-1 disapproval in California, which casts 10 percent of the nation's votes. He'll never win its 55 electoral votes, but in 2016 he carried the other 49 states and Washington, D.C., by 1.4 million votes.

Like his three predecessors at this point in their first terms, he seems vulnerable. But each of them was re-elected.

Despite this, Democratic presidential candidates have been going out on potentially shaky left-wing limbs, including the Green New Deal sketched out by the exuberant freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Endorsers include putatively serious candidates such as Sens. Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, Kamala Harris, Amy Klobuchar, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

The idea is to ban net carbon emissions in just 10 years, which evidently means no gasoline-powered cars, no beef from methane-producing cattle and no passenger airplanes. AOC wants a national passenger rail network "so that air travel becomes unnecessary," as well as guaranteed jobs, free college and government-provided health care, all financed, it seems, by printing money.

Obamacare, passed nearly 10 years ago, is no longer enough for Democrats. In his 2016 campaign, Sanders called for "Medicare-for-all," and he and other declared candidates are echoing that this cycle. When asked about the large majority of Americans who are satisfied with their current health insurance, Harris said they shouldn't have to fill out forms anymore to get treatments approved. "Let's eliminate all that," she said, without getting into details. "Let's move on." More than 100 House Democrats are sponsoring a bill to do just that.

Then there is the issue of reparations for descendants of slaves, urged without much visible effect by longtime Rep. John Conyers and author Ta-Nehisi Coates, whose widely praised best-seller argues that America today is just as racist as ever, and always will be. Polls show this unsurprisingly unpopular, but Harris, Warren and fellow candidate Rep. Julian Castro have signed on for "some form" of reparations.

Support for legal abortion has been a Democratic staple for years. But Democrats have recently moved left to pass laws allowing it up to nine months. They did so successfully in New York and unsuccessfully in Virginia, after Gov. Ralph Northam suggested it would apply after birth.

That's an unpopular position, to say the least. For years, polls have shown majority support for legalizing abortion in the first trimester and prohibiting it in the third. But all six Democratic presidential candidates in the Senate voted against Sen. Ben Sasse's bill to ban ninth-month abortions.

Did this extreme position affect public opinion? A February Marist poll showed equal numbers, 47 percent calling themselves pro-life and pro-choice, a sharp change from January's 55 to 38 percent pro-choice advantage. Maybe this poll is an outlier, but maybe putting the spotlight on ninth-month abortions changed opinion.

AOC (and others) was found using a casting call sent out by the founders of the 'Justice Democrats'. Her brother applied for her and she got picked.

Interesting. I did not know this. AOC words are not her own. After looking at the Justice Democrat’s website, it is clear that AOC is nothing more than a puppet.

I wonder who is funding this group?

Leftists have always been this far left. It's just like that girlfriend you married, she's now letting you see the full on crazy that she's been hiding from you for years. So now you see the actual her, or in this case the actual marxists behind the curtain.

That was eye-opening and refreshing. Investigative journalism with indisputable evidence to back it up (video in their own words). I actually learned something new today!

For-profit policing and for-profit prisons should be abolished. Police training should be retooled to emphasize de-escalation tactics, and body cameras should be mandatory on all officers. Furthermore, community oversight boards should be created and broken windows policing should be eliminated. Stop & frisk — which disproportionately targets African Americans and Latinos 87% of the time — has a 97% failure rate. On top of being discriminatory and ineffective, it’s also unconstitutional and should be ended. Special prosecutors must also be appointed to hold police accountable. We should invest more in jobs and education, less in jails and incarceration

I am not sure what "for profit" policing is, but apparently they are against is. We are tooled for de-escalation but we can also deal with a threat, body camera's are a double edged sword, most are ungainly and the data storage costs are prohibitive. It is not cheap to store gigs of video data. Broken window policing has been very effective at reducing crime rates. The theory is based on the sound logic of going where the criminals are. I had another idiot tell me there is such a thing as "under and over policing". He couldn't define it other than you don't see a lot of cops in rich neighborhoods. My question was simply this, do the poor not deserve safe streets? I go where the crime is. I don't go where there is no crime, to do so is a waste of my patrol. Law enforcement is in fact a confrontational act and while de-escalation has it's place immediate response is also appropriate as required. These idiots never seem to go on ride alongs, they just talk out of their butts about things they know nothing about.

92% of Americans want expanded background checks, 54% want a ban on assault weapons, and 54% want a ban on high capacity magazines. We agree with the majority of the American people and support these measures. Over 30,000 Americans die every year from gun violence, including over 10,000 homicides. The time to act is now to address this public health crisis

Bunch of made up numbers, one key thing is included in this number of murders and "violence" are suicides and illegal activity. Just by booting out illegals we will reduce this number yet marxists don't want that now do they?

Yeah full on crazy.

In that video you will see AOC's Chief of Staff wearing a shirt with a picture of a man on it. Here's the story behind that man.

But, but, we (the Right) are the one idolizing Nazis. He probably wears Che t-shirts when discussing gay rights too.

Because America is a free land, there are elements among us who don’t want it to continue like that. They want to destroy the current culture and install a new one, dominated by the various minorities they come from right now, and bound by their fascist-communist ideology. At least that’s how I see it.

Meet The New Red Guard: ‘Justice Democrats’

Revolution within and through the Democratic Party

Legal Insurrection
Posted by New Neo

Excerpt:

I don’t really know how far to the left Nancy Pelosi is, perhaps further than she lets on. But my guess is that she’s not very happy about the radical wing of the Democratic Party, the one whose members stayed seated when President Trump said in his SOTU address that the U.S. will never become a socialist country.

They have a name, too: Justice Democrats. It’s the latest euphemism for the radical left. The American public may have finally caught on to the previous euphemism, “progressive.”

Justice Democrats aren’t fooling around, and they’re not bothered by many of the considerations that dog their more moderate colleagues. Justice Democrats must feel that the time is right to lay at least a few of their cards on the table and to oppose those party members they call “radical conservatives.”

We know the name of the photogenic Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, but some of the others are quite obscure so far—and by “others,” I include those behind her rise. From Politico:

“I am talking about the radical conservatives in the Democratic Party,” said Saikat Chakrabarti [AOC’s chief of staff]. “That’s who we need to counter. It’s the same across any number of issues—pay-as-you-go, free college, “Medicare for all.” These are all enormously popular in the party, but they don’t pass because of the radical conservatives who are holding the party hostage.”

Not long ago, this would have been an outlier position even among American liberals. Today, it’s the organizing principle of a newly empowered segment of the Democratic Party, one with a foothold in the new Congress…

Although it’s Ocasio-Cortez who gets all the headlines, she arguably wouldn’t be in Congress in the first place without the group Chakrabarti founded: Justice Democrats, a new, central player in the ongoing war for the soul of the Democratic Party. It was the Justice Democrats who recruited her in a quixotic campaign early on, providing a neophyte candidate with enough infrastructure to take down a party leader. And it is the Justice Democrats who see Ocasio-Cortez as just the opening act in an astonishingly ambitious plan to do nothing less than re-imagine liberal politics in America—and do it by whatever means necessary.

*snip*

Here’s an article by Shahid that maps out the plan. This group means business. I suggest you read it.

Amazon negotiated with the state and city of New York for 25,000 guaranteed jobs. However, dick Blowsio and @0© sabotaged the plan. Not only did they chase away one of the world's largest and richest companies, they have destroyed new jobs and investment for years if not decades to come. Good job, you.

For-profit policing is using the criminal code to generate revenue, especially for the police department. By the time the Supreme Court recently ruled against "civil asset forfeiture", the various police agencies around the country were stealing more property each year than the burglars were. Most of the people from whom they confiscated property were never convicted of anything and even when they were, the property the police confiscated had little or nothing to do with the offense. E.g., bust a john for solicitation of prostitution, then take his car. The victims of police robbery could sue to get their property back but the cops usually stole no more than it would cost the victim to sue so the victims had no incentive to try to recover what the cops stole. In California, the average take was $8,500. That is less than a lawsuit would cost a typical plaintiff.

For-profit policing means that when the city of Chicago installed red light cameras, they made the amber light period of the stoplight shorter to increase the number of tickets. source:
https://www.chicagot...1223-story.html

Policing for profit means policemen being assigned quotas of how many tickets to write.

I certainly agree with you about de Blasio and certain other New York officials screwing up the potentially lucrative deal but I cannot EVER give AOC enough credit to think that any adult of even modest intelligence would take her seriously in any matter of importance.

In view of what our system of education is turning out the United States is for the first time in history facing a threat for its survival as a free nation populated by free people. The very accusations used by our neo-collectivists are precisely how they plan to do it. The traditional democrat party is now controlled by the likes of Nadler, Schiff and Cummings. They will not observe or obey the rules and the Ocasio firebrands will be given full rein to wreck. Nancy Pelosi is dealing with people who will crush her to accomplish their goals, she is merely a nuisance.

Even a general reading of how the Nazis in Germany and the Bolsheviks in Russia operated reveals where our the American left wing lunatics got their playbook. They will are just as vicious.

The media, even FOX News thinks they have a reading fro what is happening but in reality the fire they are reporting about is already licking at their pants cuffs. They will be consumed.

Add to the toxic mix the super propaganda power of Facebook, Google, Twitter and all and the threat increases exponentially.

Very colorful, Coach. I wish it weren't accurate but I fear that it is.
