Hey all,

Got an email from my 'son' in Iraq...their coffee is apparently from Desert Storm and they'd like some power bars? Anyone want to send goodies?

I have a buddy in Afghanistan now that was in Iraq two years ago. When I send him packages, I always included coffee singles (just like a tea bag).

Edited because I am an idiot.

My daughter just sent off a box loaded with home made baked goods and power bars. I make sure she puts coffee in the next one.

No! No! Stop!

Addresses should be communicated through a PM. Posting it out here for all to see leaves it open to the Nutroot jerks. Some of them get a big kick out of writing nasty letters to the troops when they can get a name or address. My son messed up and posted his address on his MSN Spaces page, and he ended up getting over a thousand little messages of "Discouragement" from the best of the left! Always pass the addresses of the deployed troops in private messages. If you want to let multiple people know the address, they can be added in as CC for a copy. Experience says no posting that stuff on an open forum lest the scum (world wide) get their hands on it.

I agree with Attila. Definitely always communicate the personal info through personal messages.

Also, if anyone wants to send power bars to the troops, and you are not sure what brand to get... may I suggest the Hooah! power bars? The brothers who started this Company are very, very, very pro-troop and pro-military family. I have had a little direct contact with them, and they are not just supportive in word, but in deed too. They do a lot of wonderful philanthropic work for service members. You can buy them on Amazon.

Thanks Mods. I'll PM his address to anyone interested. Seems that I left it at work! There are several guys in his unit, so I am checking with a couple of coffee shops here in town that they used to hang out at and see if they'll donate a few bags...or even adopt the unit...doesn't have to be much, just an acknowledgment that they are not forgotten And thanks RH...I didn't know about those guys.

May you send his request to this organization. They've received over a 1000 pounds of Caribou/Starbuscks recently and would love to send it to anyone who is deployed and has use for it. Just tell your son to be prepared for alot of coffee.

The other nice thing is they will send him all kinds of creature comfors . So anyone who knows military persons and HAS the current mailing address may forward their names as long as that person will still be able to receive packages for at least 2 months.

]www.osotil.org The initials stand for Operation Support our Troops Illinois. They send care packages to Iraq, Afghanistan and to those deployed who may not be in a current war zone. We sent packages to Bosnia and Kosovo recently and those guys love getting familar labled product also.

Just an addendum for those who do send care packages to military personnel. There is a new powdered drink mix on store selves. It come in single -use packets and is produced by Kelloggs. Its call Special K20 protein water mix.

Like Powerbars it sates off hunger until a MRE or hot meal can be provided. But unlike those nasty tasting bars, the powder can be mixed with water and is tolerated better. They do work so if you find them on sale , pick up a box or two.

I just thought I would throw that into the discussion
