John Patrick Bedell: Did right-wing extremism lead to shooting?

Authorities have identified John Patrick Bedell as the gunman in the Pentagon shooting. He appears to have been a right-wing extremist with virulent antigovernment feelings.

By Peter Grier Staff writer / March 5, 2010
Washington
Christian Science Monitor
Excerpt:

John Patrick Bedell, whom authorities identified as the gunman in the Pentagon shooting on Thursday, appears to have been a right-wing extremist with virulent antigovernment feelings.

If so, that would make the Pentagon shooting the second violent extremist attack on a federal building within the past month. On Feb. 18, Joseph Stack flew a small aircraft into an IRS building in Austin, Texas. Mr. Stack left behind a disjointed screed in which, among other things, he expressed his hatred of the government. (For more on this incident, click here.)

Details of Mr. Bedell’s case are still emerging. But writings by someone with his same name and birth date, posted on the Internet, express ill will toward the government and the armed forces and question whether Washington itself might have been behind the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

However, law enforcement officials have yet to publicly state their theories as to Bedell’s motives.

“I have no idea what his intentions were,” said the chief of Pentagon police, Richard Keevill, in a Friday press conference.

According to Mr. Keevill, Bedell was a California native who slowly made his way to Washington by car over the past several weeks.

At about 6:40 p.m. on Thursday, Bedell, dressed in a business suit, approached an entrance to the Pentagon that is linked to the Washington’s Metro system. Asked for identification, he pulled out a semiautomatic weapon and opened fire.

He was a 9-11 Truther. I never heard of Truthers being associated with the Right Wing.

And how quickly it has become 'implied' fact that the communist Bush hater that flew into the IRS office was in fact a right winger despite his writings and website to the contrary.

Typical Leftist projection. "One of our own couldn't be capable of such a thing. We're all sweet and friendly. It must've been one of those evil, racist, militaristic, fascist, right-wingnuts."

The fact that the author is tying in the latest round of bs from Mark Potok, racebaiter and ultra-leftist moron, with this very giant leap leads me to believe that the author is nothing but a moron, as well, who seems dedicated to calling everyone who does something bad a "rightwing extremist".

And the Santa Cruz area? Well, that might be enough to drive a right-winger crazy, actually. (IMG:http://www.rightnation.us/forums/style_emoticons/default/headscratch.gif)

I don't see why there wouldn't be right-wing 9/11 conspiracy theorists. You can be right-wing and still be an anti-semite, anti-government, anti-Republican isolationist.

Isn't Ron Paul somewhat of a Truther?

"Details of Mr. Bedell’s case are still emerging. But writings by someone with his same name and birth date, posted on the Internet, express ill will toward the government and the armed forces and question whether Washington itself might have been behind the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks."

However, I haven't seen to many right-wingers that have "ill will" toward the military.

Whether or not this guy is a right winger is really not of much importance.. at least at this time.

Thing is.. eventually, thinking people of every stripe and philosophy, in which right wingers are included, will have no choice but to become violent.. if we want to continue to enjoy the freedoms that we now have.

What our federal government is doing, with the help of the MSM, and much of big business, of course, is nothing short of unconstitutional.. it was why the 2nd amendment was and continues to be of utmost importance, to us all.. even to the ignorant who honestly believe that Socialism is truly the best outcome, for all of us.

A civil war is brewing. I hope I am wrong, but honestly, I feel there is little we can do, at this point, to avoid it.

The phrase "LIVE FREE OR DIE" is really becoming more and more relevant.. don't you think?

Looking back through the eyes of a 21st century American, I am still amazed that any of my fellow countrymen, save for a group of hardcore nuts (as they are portrayed in pop culture), would willingly -- even prayerfully-- take up arms to literally fight a repressive government here at home. The men of the 18th and 19th centuries who did so were infinitely superior to the fat and (mostly) happy sheep of today, myself (embarrassingly) included. (I will not give a pass to the racist nature of the Confederacy, but you have to admire the Rebs for being far more gutsy than any movement today.)

I don't see how being anti-government makes you some kind of crazy radical. I hate that the media and left have sort of Saul Alinsky'd the people who think that smaller government equals better. If anti-government were so horrible, they would have to lock up our Founding Fathers.

I wish people would quite trying to label idiots that do stuff like Bedell as in Liberal or Conservative rather than the emotionally unstable moron that they are.

Bedell also envisioned a system which required "billions and billions of carefully cultivated, highly valuable cannibis plants growing through the United States with complete security of property." This was to have been the basis for a proposed a new monetary system based on the value of a gram of cannabis.[3]

Seriously, as I understand it, the Pentagon officers were only lightly injured, and the shooter was killed. Best possible outcome, I think. (IMG:http://www.rightnation.us/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
