Sean Penn accuses Britain of 'colonialism' over Falklands
Sean Penn has accused Britain of colonialism and urged the government to open negotiations with Argentina over the Falkland Islands.

At a meeting with Argentine president Cristina Kirchner, the Left-wing Hollywood actor referred to the islands "the Malvinas Islands of Argentina" and said Britain should entered into a UN-sponsored dialogue over their sovereignty.

"The world today is not going to tolerate any ludicrous and archaic commitment to colonialist ideology," he said during the meeting in Buenos Aires.

“I know I came in a very sensitive moment in terms of diplomacy between Argentina and the UK over the Malvinas islands.

I seem to recall that a number of polls ended up being pro-British.

That said, though, I just gotta wonder how many voted pro-empire just because Britain has deeper pockets than Argentina? I am VERY curious as to whether the Malvinas are a net asset or a net drain to the exchequer.

Be that as it may, the Argentinians seem to bring up the islands when they are in economic trouble as a way of distracting the people. If they want them so bad, why don't they try a little politicking. I doubt, however, whether they Falkland Islanders would want to be a part of a country in worse econoomic shape than GB.

Actually, they are a net asset. The reason being that the Falklands are now, and have been for 160 years, part of the Crown. It's that simple. Argentina got all froggy back in '82 and got their butts kicked. The reason that Argentina is making a fuss, again, is exactly because their economy is in the tank and oil has been discovered in Falkland territorial waters as well as claiming rights to a wedge of Antarctica. If all it was is a rock island 350 miles from mainland Argentina with no mineral rights in Antarctica and no oil discovered in their waters, Argentina would have to find something else to whine about, because no one would give a rip about the place, while the UK has been there for the people for 160 years.

How can anyone claim expertise in diplomacy, history and international relations if they haven't f****d a movie star?
