Ferrari F12 Berlinetta unveiled: 'It's our fastest model ever'

By Adam Parris-Long | Yahoo! Cars News – 56 minutes ago

(excerpt)

'Ferrari has unveiled the F12 Berlinetta declaring it to be its “fastest road car ever".

Coming just days before the start of the Geneva Motor show, the F12 boasts a top speed of 211mph, reaching 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds. The 12-cylinder Berlinetta is the most powerful Ferrari road car ever launched.

The Italian car maker says it has been designed to deliver "unsurpassed driving involvement whatever the road or track". "The design of the F12 Berlinetta is...a perfect balance of uncompromising aerodynamics with harmonious proportions interpreting the typical elements of Ferrari’s front-engined V12 cars in an original and innovative way," said the company which is based in Maranello, northern Italy.'

"$80,000 for this car, and you ain't got no cup holder?"
"It's $110,000. This is one of the fastest production cars on the planet. Zero to sixty in four seconds, sweetie. This is a limited edition."
"You damn right it's limited. No cup holder, no backseat. It's a shiny :censored: with two chairs in it."

:lol2: My 1990 5 series BMW doesn't have cup holders. I asked a german engineer friend why that is and he informed me that Europe didn't have drive thru restaraunts at that time so the thought never occurred to them to design them into the vehicle. Made a lot of sense to me. My next BMW better have cup holders because I'm tired of cleaning the carpet after I do a hard turn.

As for the Ferrari....what a magnificent car! Don't think I'd fit though.

Multiply your figure by 3X. And then wonder how much it must suck to be sitting in a $300K 700HP vehicle that can do 0-60 in 4 sec.... as some twentysomething blows by you on a $50 bicycle as you're sitting in city gridlock.

Now all we need is roads to match. There's darned few places you can (legally) wind a car out anymore.

My own personal best is just a hair under 120 in an '86 Audi 5000CS on I-94 just west of Miles City Montana. This was in the '90s before they imposed speed limits. The car should have been able to do 132 but you couldn't prove it by me - I could get almost to 120 and try to push it further and the engine would start losing power. Not sure if I was floating the valves or running out of fuel pressure, but it just didn't have any more. Prior to that I'd had a '76 Porsche 924 that supposedly had a top speed of 137 but I could never get past 110.

It makes me skeptical of some of these published "top speeds".

Our US Spec '06 BMW does have them. They pop out of the dash!

Many european spec cars still don't have them.

I used to drive an old '91 Corolla. I got it to top 90 once, on a long straight stretch, with a slight downhill. It got "floaty." Slowing down seemed like a good idea after that.

I had an '06 Charger that topped that "accidentally" while passing a semi on the way home from the dealer. :o

It was a quote from the movie "Bad Boys".

Well, fastest car I ever rode in.
Was about 9 or 10 older brother had recently bought a 78 Camero. Asked him why the speedo went to 140(this was the early 80's). And, it didn't hurt that the former owner was a well known street racer. Car looked bone stock other than the tires.
His response was a big sh$t eating grin and stomp on the floor. Within about 6 or 8 seconds I found myself watching the needle peg and then some.
Funny thing is with the tires he had on it the thing was not floating at all.

Fastest ever drove, is my 80 Citation X-11.
Keep in mind these where not the same as the regular models.
Different gears, different engines, different suspensions. I can vouch for the thing hitting 105-110
I say that as I was timing between mile markers. Only reason I couldn't squeeze a bit more out is the carb wasn't delivering enough gas. Couldn't get the engine past about 4 grand.

Before you call it impossible keep in mind these where essentially factory built race cars per the SCCA rules.
What ever you race you gotta' sell. I have made a life's habit out of doing things that others say are impossible, or owning things that act in a manner that is better than what others expect or think is possible.

Seeing how many people drive by their cell phones, I'll stick to the track.

In a production-based (haha) car, just over 185 between turn seven and The Dip at Road Atlanta, in a 935. And yes, I know Road Atlanta hasn't had The Dip in several years. My glory days are behind me.

The next year, I lapped Road America at 1:55 in an early 70's Lola Indy car that a friend had restored. So my top speed was somewhere north of 200. The Indy cars and Formula cars of that period still had the diver sitting in the middle of the fuel tank, just inches off the ground. That was one of those times I couldn't push myself up out of the car after the run because I was shaking too much. The owner, by buddy, went out the next session and beat my time. That was my only season. Even though the offer was there, I couldn't talk myself back into that cockpit. A man's got to know his limitations.

Only time I've been on a track is at Bristol Motor Speedway. At about 30 MPH. In a Jeep Cherokee.

I'm not sure if they still do it, but they used to open the track to the public between thanksgiving and christmas with a big light display in the center and you could drive right up on the track in your own vehicle.

I tell you what - Get on a 30 degree banked track going that slow in a high vehicle like a cherokee, and you'd swear to god you're about to tip over any second.

I always laugh at the yahoos in their Vettes, Jags, Beemers and all that can do 200mph allegedly while stuck on the 405/PCH in the OC gridlock.Nice expensive paperweight you have there.
Crap! You can't even get her up to speed out on a Vegas run out on the desert or tules anymore! Even Nevada has speed limits nowdays!
