(excerpt)
'A credit-card sized computer designed to help teach children to code has gone on sale for the first time.
The Raspberry Pi is a bare-bones, low-cost computer created by volunteers mostly drawn from academia and the UK tech industry.
Sold uncased without keyboard or monitor, the Pi has drawn interest from educators and enthusiasts.
Supporters hope the machines could help reverse a lack of programming skills in the UK.'

Not sure how well it will sell though. The marketing approach is putting the horse before the cart. A product should be designed to sell rather than 'educate' a target audience.

It is already selling unbelievably well.
They are already sold out and back-ordering like crazy.

Why am I visualizing a massive increase in spam and viruses coming from the UK?

This can make one heckuva HTPC (Home Theater PC). It is capable of full HD playback. Plug in your USB drive, and voila, you are able to play HD quality movies. For about $35 bucks. All from something slightly larger than a credit card.

I imagine its mainly the built in GPU. The RPi is capable of graphics on par with an Xbox 1. Not great by any stretch, but again, they are capable of full HD video playback. They also (I believe) are coming with a version of Redhat Fedora LINUX OS. So it is actually a full OS all ready to go. I believe they are also going to have a couple of other versions of LINUX available.

Usually British viruses are spread by 19 year old slappers on a holiday to Ayia Napa.

I kinda work in the social science technology field, but my wife puts me on a tight budget for early-adopter-gizmos. This little guy is only 35 dollars so that's why it sold out at 1:02 am EST after 2 minutes of listing. Granted they only had 10,000 units, I think.

Ayia Napa: 'party' resort in Cyprus. Along with Ibiza, has become almost a rite of passage for British teenagers to holiday and party in for the last 20 years. The partying there and in Ibiza makes the American spring break look tame. Imagine Caligula to the nth degree.
