Sandy victims left out in the cold during arctic blast

By Perry Chiaramonte

Excerpt:

The brutal cold snap affecting much of the country is taking a devastating toll on victims of superstorm Sandy, many of whom are camped out in tent cities or living in homes without power, heat or running water.

Those unable to get proper lodging have hunkered down in their homes without the basic necessities of heat, electricity, or running water.

“Many families in Union Beach are using space heaters to warm upstairs,” said Jeanette Van Houten, a resident from the small New Jersey town that was among the hardest-hit communities. “There’s people with no heat, no electric, but they are staying in the house because it’s better than having to deal with FEMA and having to leave hotels every two weeks.

Republicans should invite them to the State of the Union to counter Obama hosting the Sandy Hook parents.

They served their purpose--(photo op with the ONE.) So--like the hundreds of thousands of Pro-life marchers in Washington, if the press ignores them then they don't exist.

Please forgive my 'insensitivity' but I'd like to feel for these people but just can't seem to reach them

Get off you asses, New York and New Jersey Governors, and support yourselves instead of crying to the Fed (thus the US taxpayer) for help and GOVERN for Christ's sake! We're tired of your crappola!

Mississippi and Alabama Gulf coasts were devastated MORE than the cesspool that is New Orleans yet you hear nothing about how they, with little help from the Fed, recovered quite nicely, thank you very much! Hell, the Fed is STILL funneling money into that bottomless New Orleans sewer in the guise of 'for Katrina' aid.

You Damned Yankees have been living off the teat of 'flyover country' so often you just don't have the gumption to wean yourselves and take some responsibility.

This is the best they can do? I thought Obama and FEMA were miracle workers?

I agree with you Willik. If you want to see some ' can do ' people it has to be the folks in Miss and Alabama after Katrina. I kind of wonder if their rebuilding the South after the war has some bearing on the South's quick recovery after Katrina. I'm not including NOLA, BTW.

One issue that seems to escape the media is that the Sandy hurricane wasn't that severe but moreover, most of the homes destroyed were not up to current code because most of them were cottages built by people of means who lived in the city and used these homes as vacation getaways back in the day. As more trendy places opened up elsewhere the wealthy sold their bungalows to upgrade to more interesting digs ( for them ).

I couldn't believe they would re-elect him after the Sandy/Christie photo-op/Las Vegas trip fiasco that took place before the election.
