I'm about a month behind the times. I noticed Bill Schultz missing from Red Eye but figured he was just on vacation or something. But it's been about a month now, so I went looking for news. I found out he's gone permanently, but can't seem to find out why. Money dispute? Contract dispute? Disagreement with "the suits" at Fox? It seems nobody's talking.

I've been a Red Eye fan for years, so no doubt I'll keep watching. But the show just won't be the same without Bill.

I know that I, for one, don't miss him. He had become just plain LOUD, on everything.
It wasn't funny, and didn't, IMO, add to the show anymore.

Shulz has not said via Twitter or interview what happened. FNC said it was an amicable split. TV News blogs claim he wanted more money than they wanted to pay him

Jedediah was on FTR Radio last week and mentioned it but didn't add any insight. She did give the impression it was amicable, though.

I found this discussion thread at Red Eye's "Activity Pit", and Bill himself makes a one-post appearance on page 10 (under the name "William Shulzpeare"):

"The fact that this is such an Activity Pit discussion warms what heart I have left. I am very blessed/lucky that I ever even got this job. Thanks to Greg. And through him I met some pretty awesome people. Iím truly sad itís over, but have nothing but good memories. And Iíll definitely miss you guys. We werenít cool. We were a mess of a show. It took you guys to see a kernel of entertainment in our ineptitude, and then turn it into the kind of ďcultĒ (God, I hate that word) hit it became. Iíll miss all of that. YOU made that. And, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you. I donít know what Iím going to do. But youíll all be the first to know, and hopefully join me. Prediction: Nannying. SoooÖwhoís got kids that need a male Mary Poppins? Spoons. Sugar. Medicine goes down. You know the drill."

As you can see, he still doesn't explain why he left.

The only reason that I watch "Red Eye" occasionally is because I'm an insomniac. Hence the name "Red Eye". I have never really understood the format of the show. Lots of inside jokes among the panelists and New Yorkers in general. Yes, I like the cat videos.

I agree with Greg Gutfeld on a lot of things, except his delivery sucks. His monologue rants are good but his hosting skills are abysmal. Understood that Fox is paying Gutfeld to be obnoxious.

Amazing how Bill Schultz could sit there, take the abuse, and be the only one focused on the question at hand. I would have slapped the taste out of Gutfeld's mouth for saying to me even 1% of what he threw at Schultz.

Bill wrote most the insults directed at him.

I did not know that they had any writing to the show. Seems to me that they tend to go way off script.

Bill Schultz would do the "man on the street" bits. He did exhibit a lot of self-deprecating humor.
