Report: Conyers To Announce Retirement In January

Excerpt:

In the end this may have been the only compromise available to Pelosi. She couldn’t force him to resign and his allies in the House may have resented any attempt to make him do so, knowing that it would have appeared as though he was stepping down in disgrace. Which, ah, he would have been.

So Conyers gets to finish out his two years, leaving on “his own terms” replete with plenty of pomp and circumstance in the House about his glorious legacy, and then he’s gone. And in the meantime Democrats get to cross their fingers and hope that there isn’t a drumbeat of new accusations against Conyers in the media over the next year that dilutes their “the GOP elected a predator in Roy Moore!” message for the midterms.

The funniest part of this? Conyers apparently plans to wait until just a few weeks after the Alabama election to make his move. If he announced his retirement beforehand, Dems might get a little credit from Alabama voters for trying to clear the bad guys out of Congress. In a very tight race, who knows how that might affect Moore’s support. As it is, no dice.

*snip*

His lawyer insisted today that he won’t be forced out of office, although really he meant to say he won’t be forced out right now.

*snip*

That's if he don't die first....He's in the hospital right now

This POS was elected in 1964....Think about that for a minute

He will pull through his "stress-related illness". A rather pathetic and cynical ploy because the sympathy card was the second tossed from the deck.

I am positive that Conyers will not "retire" to the Detroit district that has kept him in Congressional perks for over 50 years.

My bet is that he is not ill and it's a fake.

This is an old lawyer created ploy/tactic to try to garner sympathy from any would be prosecutor and the public.

Just like immediately checking one's self into "rehab" like the other sex offenders/criminals are all doing after the advice of their lawyer.

Mobsters do that too. They check in to hospitals when the heat is on. Years ago my sister was Carlo Gambino's private-duty nurse at a hospital in Brooklyn.

Female staffers should be advised to call in sick the day of his going away party.

It's spelled con. No "i" in front of it.

First of all Alabama's not a tight race, and we shall see that play out on the 12th.

That's just it. People didn't think, they just voted for him.
