New California Poll Could Spell Trouble For House Democrats

California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom leads his Republican challenger John Cox by just 5 points in the race to become governor. That's good news for down-ballot Republicans.

House Democrats have become very bullish in recent weeks about their chances of retaking control of the House in the 2018 midterm elections, but a new poll from deep-blue California might have them worried about their chances.

The poll, conducted by Probolsky Research, found that California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) leads Republican John Cox by just 5 points in the state’s gubernatorial contest.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle:

“The poll, conducted by Probolsky Research between Aug. 29 and Sept. 2, found that Lt. Gov. Newsom leads Republican businessman John Cox 44 percent to 39, with 17 percent of the poll’s participants saying that they are undecided.”

…..

“Interestingly enough, the poll found that Newsom and Cox are virtually tied among Hispanic voters, a group the Democratic Party usually carries by a pretty healthy margin.”

“Newsom leads Cox just 35 percent to 34 percent among Hispanics, with an additional 31 percent undecided.”

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) have been very open about the fact that their path to the majority runs through the Golden State.

Democrats need flip at least 23 Republican seats to retake control of the House, and in California, there are seven districts currently represented by Republicans that Hillary Clinton won in 2016.

Newsom’s narrow lead over Cox, though, suggests that flipping those seats might be more difficult than Democrats initially thought.

You know what democrats’ plan B is: illegals voting in quantity.

And then there’s plan C if all else fails: who counts votes....
