Taco Bell voted best Mexican restaurant in the country

<More Laughs Here>

The Harris Poll, a nationwide customer survey of their favorite brands, has released its 2018 results. The poll surveyed more than 77,000 customers in the U.S. on more than 3,000 brands to find which companies are the favorites among consumers. Respondents weighed in on everything from printers to pizza, and the results are surprising. Here are some of consumers' top choices.

Best Mexican Restaurant: Taco Bell

The after-hours crowd is still probably Taco Bell's biggest customer base, but the company has grown its popularity through creative ads like the Nacho Fries conspiracy theory movie trailers starring Josh Duhamel and a strong social media presence. The company has 7,000 locations and does nearly $2 billion in revenue.

Best Burger Restaurant: Five Guys

The Virginia burger chain now has 1,500 locations and is in 13 countries. The company started in 1986, when Jerry Murrell and his four sons were the original "Five Guys." All of the sons are still with the company, which now employees 15,000 people.

Best Coffee Shop: Krispy Kreme

This is probably more about the donuts than the coffee, but there's no question Krispy Kreme reigns supreme in the fried dough arena. The company, which turned 81 in July, has locations all over the world and opened its 1,000th shop in Kansas City, Kansas in 2015. The first customer received a dozen free donuts every week for a year.

Best Chicken Restaurant: Chick-fil-A

It's not a shock Chick-fil-A tops the charts for national chicken restaurants. People love Chick-fil-A, and the fact their locations close on Sundays just seems to make customers want them more. The company does $8 billion in revenue despite having one third of the locations Taco Bell does.

Best Pizza: Blaze Pizza

Compared to the other food-related brands, Blaze Pizza is still in their infancy. The company started in 2011, but has quickly spread to 35 states, Canada, and Kuwait. The name comes from the speed at which the restaurant has your pizza ready, with the average cook time around three minutes. LeBron James became an investor in 2012.

Best Sandwich Shop: (TIE) Subway and Panera

Subway is the biggest restaurant in the world, with 43,306 locations worldwide. That number puts them 10,000 locations ahead of McDonald's. Panera, originally known as St. Louis Bread Company, is still headquartered in the St. Louis region. The company is continually voted the healthiest fast-casual restaurant option.

Taste is subjective. I think this when I'm watching those food program snob judges explain "a refined palate."

All restaurants are Taco Bell.

And you'll definitely need the three seashells.

What do you want from WFSB, Hartford, CT? Former home of Gayle King, really good buddy of Oprah.

I don't consider Taco Bell 'Mexican' but I do like some of their food. Subway sucks, Five Guys is very good.

Agreed on all counts.

Speaking of Subway...

Did you hear about ol' Jared? He gets foot longs for free.

Jared Fogle will be enjoying a different kind of footlong in prison.

Jared Fogle hasn't had his last footlong.

Jared fogle is gonna be getting a whole new type of footlong in prison

In other news, Jared Fogle got sentenced to 15 years of having absolutely no say in whether he gets a 6 inch or a footlong.

Appears most of it is safe for work, but I haven't read through all of it yet.

Per Five Guys, bit on the greasy side, but man oh man it's what a Burger should be. Not the recycled, over salted, over peppered, dried shoe leather that many of the big chains try and pass of as a burger.

I remember being the outsider in previous RN discussions about Subway. I've concluded it must be because we have an unusually good Subway shop here in Blaine. I've tried all the sub shops - Quizno's, Port-of-Subs, Jimmy John's, etc, and none of them measure up to the Subway here in town. Always delicious, always fresh ingredients, always fresh-baked bread. I can't for the life of me figure out how anybody could possibly dislike Subway unless ours is the exception to the rule and they suck everywhere else.

And same goes for 5 Guys burgers (except in the opposite direction): My experience must've been an exception to the rule. It was so awful I'll never go there again. Bllleeeaaaggghhh. Even cheapo-burger places like Micky D's & Burger King are a hundred times better than the greasy glop-burder I had at 5 Guys.

:yucky:

But at least I'm in full agreement about Taco Bell! I mean, the only way anybody could consider Taco Bell the "best" Mexican restaurant would be if they've never been to a real Mexican restaurant.

I would think of Taco Bell as a mexican themed eatery, however I would never mistake them for an acutal mexican restaurant.

Dicks, in Seattle, 2 if I remember correct, and the one in Spokane are my favorite burger joints, used to eat at the one in Spokane when I was a kid...simple menu and imho great burgers, fries and shakes and I like the ol' walk up atmosphere,, the last time I ate there was over 20 years ago when I was stationed in Seattle as a Marine Recruiter...so it may have changed since then.

Subway is really good if the restaurant is clean. The stores around me have forgotten what a clean restaurant is so I do not go any more.

Yeah, in any food-serving/preparing establishment cleanliness is key.

Subway. Poor Jared, his career ended as it began, trying to get into smaller pants.

When we had to visit a lot of Marine bases for my last job, there was always a choice of lunch, a fast food place, usually McDonald's (ugh) and a Subway. Always a Subway. Believe me, I don't find Subway to be worth going to if there's any halfway decent sandwich shop around, but man on man is it superior to McDonald's.

How hot is the oven that can cook a pizza in three minutes?

Red Coat Tavern in Royal Oak Michigan for best burger. It is not a chain, but the owner has been busted more than once for serving alcohol to underage customers, so the place has character.

Blaze Pizza probably uses the half-baked "rapid rise" dough for the crust then they throw it into a convection oven. Subway does this which makes a clearly inferior pizza. Good pizza is always worth the wait.

I have never had 5 Guys. I went there once and saw much they wanted just for French fries. That was enough for me.

Chik-Fil-A is overrated except for the peppermint shakes.
