Democratic socialist wunderkind Ocasio-Cortez compares her election to landing on the moon and wiring America for electricity saying 'we've done what we thought was impossible'

Democratic socialist wunderkind Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said Friday that her surprising election victory, and those of other liberal congressional freshmen, are on a par with a series of landmark moments in American history. During a press conference hosted by the Sunshine Movement, an advocacy group that leverages youth protests to oppose global warming, the 29-year-old Ocasio-Cortez said her Nov. 6 achievement ranks with the 1969 Moon landing and the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

'We've done what we thought was impossible,' she told a small crowd who braved 40-degree weather. 'We went to the moon. We electrified the nation. We established civil rights. We enfranchised the country. We dig deep, and we did it. We did it when no one else thought that we could. That's what we did when so many of us won an election this year.'

Ocasio-Cortez has claimed before that the her party was responsible for the moon landing. 'We are the party of King, of Roosevelt, of the ones who went to the moon,' she told the liberal Netroots Nation conference in August. While Democratic President John F. Kennedy advocated strongly for a moon-targeted space program, Republican President Richard Nixon was in office when NASA succeeded.

Ocasio-Cortez and other young environmentalists are pressing for what they call a 'Green New Deal,' including what she demanded in her campaign platform: 'transitioning the United States to a carbon-free, 100-percent renewable energy system, and a fully modernized electrical grid by 2035.' She is also calling on members of Congress to refuse political contributions from companies that mine, pump, refine or sell fossil fuels. At least 15 incoming House Democrats have endorsed an Ocasio-Cortez plan to create a new legislative committee dedicated strictly to global warming issues.

Leftists are nothing if not vain narcissistis. Their entire world view starts with the belief that they possess some bit of insight, intelligence or enlightenment that sets them above the masses. The irony is that their actuall ideas are old, well trodden, and produce predictable disasterous results. This is obvious to any of the masses they seek to rule that have even a cursory awareness of history. Not even ancient history but recent history...as in happening now in many places.

The largest problem with the children in her generation is a lack of understanding scale. They believe their showing up for the race is equivalent to scaling the Himalayas. She got a participant trophy in her election and will lose against a fruit fly in the next one but she's done "amazing" things already.

Well, "electing a moonbat" sounds similar to "moon landing" in a punning sort of way, so maybe her confusion is understandable once we remember her lack of intelligence.

Didn't she win unopposed in a district that usually goes >95% Democrat. And if I recall, only 13% of the district actually voted in the primary where she beat a rich old white guy. I'd really like to be a fly on the wall when Nancy Pelosi explains the pecking order and the rules for being a good Democrat Soldier. It will be interesting to watch the fall-out the first time she crosses Ms Pelosi or the backlash when she doesn't heed the warning in the first memo.

Side Note: She is part of a larger plan to replace the aging democrat leadership with younger "far left" candidates that will appeal to academic elites while promising all kinds of free stuff to the young masses who are not yet "net" taxpayers and who's math skills result from the federally mandated "Common Core". "But They they have electrolytes"..... They start in safe districts where literally anyone they put up will be elected usually unopposed and provide them a "national platform" supported by the media to push their agenda on the masses who still rely on the LSM for their information. . We will see increasingly far left candidates replacing "retiring" members who have outlived their usefulness to the cause. Once the water starts to boil, it will be too late.

I'd compare it more to a 5 year old being in the control room of a nuclear power plant.
