Polls Show Americans Are Warming to Socialism Over Capitalism

Article:

As the liberal media continues to shovel propaganda down the throats of the American people, a rapidly growing number of citizens are warming to the idea of socialism over the capitalism that has driven prosperity in the United States for decades, according to new polls.

As politicians rebrand traditional socialism by calling themselves "Democratic socialists," they have made very-visible gains in the past year, with newly elected Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez leading the movement.

Sen. Bernie Sanders has also become a party icon with the status to bring policies like Medicare-for-all into the mainstream.

The trend isn't just limited to these two politicians, however, as polls show that American voters across the country – in particular, Democrats and young people – are increasingly warming to socialism over capitalism.

The shift is a recent phenomenon, and reflects a dimming view of capitalism more than anything, with many voters having no recollection of the Cold War or the association of socialism with the USSR.

Back in 2010, 68 percent of young people, 18-29 years old, said they approved of capitalism, while 51 percent said they approved of socialism, according to Gallup.

Fast-forward to August 2018, and that same age group backs socialism over capitalism, 51 percent to 45 percent.Democrats, meanwhile, were evenly split between capitalism and socialism back in 2010.

But now, 57 percent say they hold a positive view of socialism, compared with just 47 percent who say the same for capitalism.

The trend extends to high school students, according to a YouGov poll released in November, which found 14-17-year-olds split 50-50 on whether socialism or capitalism is better.

Americans as a whole, however, still prefer capitalism 56 percent to 37 percent. So why the increase among some groups?

Because those groups contain a larger proportion of idiots.

Never trust what polls say because they are almost always biased towards progtardism.

In school, a required course was “Americanism vs Communism”. Today it’s “America is Bad”.

HS course (mid'70s) was called "Problems with Democracy". led by "Mr. Dungan" who had previously, literally, "thrown the book at me" the year prior.

Freshman year. Mr Dungan taught "Social Studies". Y'all know me by now after 15+ years on this board; I am nobody's fool, and if disagree with "party line" then y'all will hear about it. I call it as I see it.

Any way, I spoke up perhaps once too often, Mr. Dungan slammed the book shut, hurled it at me, and said "How'd you like to teach this class?"

I took it in stride.

While this may not be your intent, I hate the insinuation that someone who happens to agree with majority opinion “isn’t calling it like they see it”.

I happen to agree more often with conservatives than I disagree. But the opinions to agree or disagree are my own, no different from yours. So to me that’s “calling like I see it”.

I guess one could say that my response to you qualifies as calling like I read it...

There's a reason it takes 18 to vote. Should be higher, IMHO.

One should not be allowed to vote for (or contribute money to ) any office that one is not eligible to hold themselves.

Heck, I was 16 in '76. Yeah, I'd have voted for Jimmy Carter. I submit myself as 'Exhibit A'.

Agree. Voting and drinking should be the same age. If the State cannot trust you to drink adult beverages responsibly, you can't be trusted to vote responsibly.

The identity of these groups gives the answer:

Illegal immigrant hordes

Indoctrinated Millennials

I know this is a bit anecdotal but kind of heartening if even a little bit true:

An 18 year old can be given the death penalty and is treated as a full adult in the criminal justice system. An 18 can join or be drafted into the military and fight and die for our country. If the state has that kind of power over you, you have the right to have a say (a vote) in how the state is governed.

As for the main topic: Ask 10 different people what "socialism" is and you'll most likely get 10 different answers. Which makes it hard to have a meaningful conversation about this issue.

I disagree, Timothy, and I'll submit MYSELF as Exhibit A. I joined the military at 17, not because i was particularly patriotic but to get away from a bad home life. It is what it is.

I will further submit that - (with 20/20 hindsight) -, at that age, I didn't know scheisse from Shinola; I couldn't have enunciated the difference between "My Ass and an Applecart" as my German grandfather used to say.

A minor can be treated as an adult in the criminal justice system if the crime is heinous enough.

As far as the military, it’s all volunteer so that’s a bit of a moot argument.

I mean you gotta be 42 inches tall to ride Space Mountain, should we be giving voting rights to sixth graders?

Here’s a decent litmus test for voting age, for federal elections, make the age to vote for a congressman, senator, or president the as the requirement set for serving in said capacity. If you can’t do it why have a say in who does?

I’d be in favor of brining back the property requirements of the olden days.

At the very least, those that are taking a handout or are in debt to the government should “recuse” themselves from voting. Seems the whole conflict of interest angle has become a bit of a cause celebre as of late

There’s only one answer required: 100 million dead in the pursuit.
