Bracing For Socialism In New Mexico

Article:

In a state all but abandoned by conservatives and the Republican Party, the Land of Enchantment is now run by a statewide Democrat super-majority and freshly captained by a governor hell-bent on dismantling a struggling economy.

Less than six weeks into her first term as governor, Michelle Lujan-Grisham (D) has re-ignited the call to disarm New Mexicans through a plethora of punitive gun control bills. She is ready to eviscerate rural landowners, farmers, and ranchers with House Bill 366, the so-called "Wildlife protection and public safety act" that would ban all trapping on public lands – hitting violators with the heaviest fines in the nation.

That's not all: She wants to tap into the state's Land Grant Permanent Fund — a $17 billion asset — to pay for raising the minimum wage and state employee salaries, and to create budget-busting leftist pet projects.

But the latest affront to New Mexican dignity is Lujan-Grisham's decision to pull National Guard troops from the border in defiance of President Trump's demand for a wall coupled with a proposed piece of legislation that would tank the fledgling resurrection of the oil and gas industry – a double whammy to create absolute dependence on the government.

The Wall

President Trump, by all accounts, delivered a stellar State of the Union — a call for Congress to get off its high horse and get busy doing the work of the American people, and that includes funding to secure the southern border. Within hours of Trump's declaration that National Guard troops were on the ground to assist ICE and border patrol agents, Lujan-Grisham ordered the soldiers from Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Wisconsin out of the state, warning that "New Mexico will not take part in the president's charade of border fear-mongering by misusing our diligent National Guard troops."

She also released the most ridiculous of promotional videos of herself busting through drywall, which needs a look see — if one has the stomach for exceptionally poor production.

When this news hit the airwaves, the thinking men and women of New Mexico were aghast at her blatant disregard for her southern county constituents. Josie Slaughter of Mimbres called the governor out immediately: "Rhetoric that the ranchers have requested help and she ignores entirely because it doesn't meet the liberal agenda?" And Andrea J Cecur warned, "Then you'll have to own it when SHTF."

And it will.

This is so sad to read. I partly grew up in Clovis, NM, and still have friends there.

To me, this is the end result of 8 years of Barrack Obama's policies. During those years, we had new legislation passed that kept young adults on their parent's health insurance plan because they couldn't find a damn job! I'd hate to even guess how many falsely claimed a disability at the same time and still receiving government benefits for the exact same reason. So now we have 50% of young people who view Socialism favorably and why not? Under St. Obama the Magnificent, Capitalism was failing them. The president's making huge strides to turn the mess around, but after 8 years of Obama driving the bus, the bus is still under repair. New Mexico's headed in the wrong direction, but then again, what state run by Progressives isn't?!

Off topic but I grew up in Hereford and I have relatives that own a dairy in Clovis.

The eastern side of New Mexico is fairly conservative due to all of the Texas transplants. I’m not sure how these socialists policies will affect that area but I’m sure they’ll raise a stink if Texans decide to stop visiting New Mexico because of this. If Texas legalizes gambling then New Mexico would crumble, along with Oklahoma and Louisiana. Guess that’s why Texas doesn’t have casinos. Just sayin.

It is amazing how many young black men and overweight women are sporting disabled stickers. I see it all the time. People that can move completely and work are suddenly "disabled". I am 60% disabled according to VA based on military service and I never use anything like that myself, in fact I refuse to pretend that the issues I gained through military service are a "disability". It's called LIFE and it happens, it does not mean you should quit.

In 2008, the labor participation rate in this country was 67%, after 8 years of Obama, that number had dropped to 62.6%. And that 62.6% doesn't reflect the shidt jobs people were forced to take just to survive. When people's unemployment benefits ran out, a lot of 'em claimed disability just to survive. You know the saying, "A body in motion tends to stay in motion, while a body at rest tends to stay at rest"? Same thing applies to people, the longer they sit collecting disability, the less apt they are to get off their duff and re-join the work force. And good for you for not claiming a military disability, as a Vet from the Vietnam era, I feel the same way...
