Boys Hailed As Hometown Heroes For Helping Elderly Man After Fall
Patch - Beth Dalby - link

CALDWELL, ID — Erika Tovar started snapping pictures when she saw what five teenagers were up to in Caldwell, Idaho, a couple of weeks ago. When Tovar posted her pictures on Facebook, the five boys became internet heroes. They are a bit overwhelmed by all the attention for what they say was just a simple good deed.

Victor Ornelas, Isaac Hernandez, Diego Ramirez, Devan Ornelas and Josh Sorg were on the way to play basketball when they spotted an elderly man using a walker who had fallen down.

Basketball could wait.

Hernandez, who was driving, slammed on his brakes and parked the car. The boys jumped out, ran to the man — Jose Gomez — and not only helped him up, but walked with him to his home and tended to his injuries.

Tovar, who had just dropped off her children at their cousins’ home, had seen Gomez struggling and kept an eye on him from her rear-view mirror. When he fell, she quickly made a U-turn with the intent to help him, but the boys reached Gomez first. That’s when Tovar started taking pictures.

Gomez’s knees were banged up and bleeding. So the boys soaked a napkin in alcohol and cleaned up his wounds.

“It touched my heart how caring these boys are,” Tovar told Yahoo Lifestyle.. “I wanted my Facebook friends to see. But I didn’t think it would go viral!”

Soaked a napkin in alcohol?

And applied that to his abrasions? WTF?! :o

Are they freakin' sadists?

Sheez!

Use some peroxide or something else better that doesn't burn like absolute hell!

Other than that, great job kids!

As a young boy growing up I was very rambunctious and therefore suffered many scrapes, cuts and abrasions.
Our routine first aid was alcohol then merthiolate.

Ours was straight up iodine. Oh, how I longed for hydrogen peroxide...

She may have confused the peroxide with alcohol, since both are used to clean wounds.

Might have been all that was available. But, if that old man grew up on the farm, was a mechanic, foundry worker, factory worker, Veteran, etc etc etc etc etc. The rubbing alcohol would have felt like a kiss at most. I do agree though that slapping that stuff to a large wound or scrape is a form of torture. But, like many things after a while you get used to it.
