<Lots More democratic Stupid Here>

As reform legislation Opens a New Window. advances through Congress Opens a New Window. that may eliminate a future IRS-created free filing software for taxpayers, New York Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez suggested most Americans shouldn't be preparing their own taxes.

In a speech on the House floor, the freshman lawmaker referenced a Vox article which deemed it a "huge scandal" that lawmakers have not yet required the IRS to automatically prepare taxes for most Americans.

"Long-term, we should be looking at a solution where everyday people do not necessarily have to spend hours every year preparing tax returns, when the majority of Americans have relatively simple and straight-forward returns," she added.

If she's so worried about the time it takes to comply with our absurd tax code she should support the Fair Tax.
No personal or corporate tax returns; so no consumer or corporate compliance costs. . .

Instead of simplifying the tax code, give the IRS more access to the citizens. What could go wrong? People like @0 who try to micromanage other people's lives usually don't have their own in order. This won't end the way that her professors told her it will.

Imagine the hissy fit this turd will have if she looses her seat in the next election? My bet is that she is not even going to campaign. But will blame it somehow on the GOP.

Sure, letting the citizenry do their taxes is like letting the sheep shear themselves when loyal party members could be shaving 'em, instead!

Until the 1950's, you could have the IRS figure your taxes for you. H & R Block were offering tax filing services as a sideline to their main business, accounting for small business clients. Then, in the mid-Fifties, the IRS abolished this service and all taxpayers had to file their own returns. That is when the Bloch brothers' tax business really took off.

So, there is historical precedent for the IRS filing taxpayers' returns for them. There is nothing wrong with this in principle. The county tax assessor assesses my property's value for the purpose of figuring my property tax, although there is a small industry devoted to protesting people's property tax assessments.

What I wonder is how this would work. Does the IRS enjoy such credibility with the taxpayers that the latter will trust the former to do an adequate job?

Of course she does. If the average citizen doesn't have to sit there over forms and perplexing additional forms, struggling, it does two things. One, they don't get a first hand experience of how convoluted, inefficient, and idiotic government is. Second, they become less aware of just how much money is going out of their pockets to Uncle Sugar. Both are perfectly designed to support the Socialist Paradise by keeping people ignorant.
