Stacey Abrams Under Investigation By State Ethics Commission

The Daily Caller
Jason Hopkins | Energy Investigator
5:48 PM 04/11/2019

Excerpt:

The Georgia state ethics commission will subpoena bank records from Stacey Abrams’ 2018 gubernatorial campaign and several other groups that raised money to help her candidacy.

David Emadi, a former Douglas County prosecutor who became director of the state ethics commission Monday, announced on Thursday that he will soon subpoena Abrams’ gubernatorial campaign, various political action committees and special interest groups that supported her failed campaign, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“What I can say about the investigation into the Abrams campaign is in the relatively near future, I expect we will be issuing subpoenas for bank and finance records of both Miss Abrams and various PACs and special-interest groups that were affiliated with her campaign,” Emadi said to reporters on Thursday.

It’s not immediately clear what Abrams’ camp is being investigated for specifically, and the new director did not give many details on the matter. The ethics commission, known formally as the Georgia Government Transparency & Campaign Finance Commission, is tasked with collecting reports on lobbying expenditures, vendor grift and campaign finance. The Commission is also in charge of issuing penalties for any violations pertaining to these issues.

Abrams’ former campaign manager hit back hard against the announcement.

“This is Kemp’s corrupt playbook, his long history of launching frivolous investigations with bogus charges against political opponents,” Lauren Groh-Wargo said Thursday in a series of tweets, claiming Emadi to be a Kemp ally and the investigation a partisan hit job. “This is a shameful misuse of taxpayer dollars for a political vendetta. We will fight false accusations with every available resource.”

Because there were over a dozen “independent groups” in support of Abrams 2018 campaign, most of them funded by out-of-state donors, Emadi said the investigation will take time as the Commission meticulously reviews all of the reports.

News of the investigation comes as Abrams, the former Minority Leader of the Georgia House, mulls not only a 2020 Senate bid in Georgia, but also a possible run for the White House. Her failed gubernatorial campaign against now-Republican Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp drew national attention, and she has remained in the national spotlight as she continues to claim, without evidence, that Kemp used his former position as Georgia Secretary of State to maliciously tilt the election in his favor.

Abrams is pissing away any good will she had coming out of the election. Heard a story last week that while Kemp’s numbers have gone up, hers have gone down.

This gapped tooth cow is now DOA. Which is good given what a sore loser she is.

I'd really prefer it if she just waddled back into obscurity. I was sick of her entitled bullschitt two minutes after learning of her existence. She's the very epitome of sore loser since she wonlost. :coffeenpc:

Quick, release the smokescreen: "This is racism, sexism, homophobia, etc!"

She's "considering" a run for POTUS, too? Seems like so are a number of Dems who've lost elections and are "between jobs."

Stacey Abrams campaign under investigation by new Georgia ethics head
Author: Doug Richards

ATLANTA — The new director of Georgia's ethics commission says he will continue an investigation into former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams.

The Georgia Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission investigates ethics complaints - frequently filed by watchdogs or unfriendly political operatives. Director David Emadi tells 11Alive news that "four or five" such complaints against Abrams are being actively investigated.

Broad Georgia ethics probe targets Abrams — and her backers

The head of Georgia’s ethics commission has filed a spate of subpoenas targeting groups led by Stacey Abrams and the chairwoman of the state Democratic Party, prompting criticism that he’s trying to exact political revenge against Republican Gov. Brian Kemp’s political opponents.

The subpoenas obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution were filed on April 26 by new ethics chief David Emadi and seek extensive financial, bank and payroll records from the Abrams’ campaign, which raised roughly $30 million in last year’s race against Kemp.

The ethics office also wants all correspondence between the Abrams campaign and a constellation of left-leaning groups that registered and mobilized voters, many with a focus on energizing minorities. They include the voting rights group Abrams helped launch and a nonprofit co-founded by state Sen. Nikema Williams, the new leader of the state Democratic Party.

---------------------------------

This is a story that has "legs", as a journalist would say, ALONG WITH national implications.

Y'all remember Abrams. She's the wannabee Georgia Governor who just wouldn't quit, challenging the results for a month or so before going on national tour as the poster child for "voter suppression".

---------------------------------

Heart of the investigations was how $millions of out-of-state dollars were funneled to an Abrams-led "Get out the vote" group, which was illegal on it's face the way it was done.

Secondary heart of the investigation is how an alarmingly high number of voter registrations that her group "assisted" in registering, and which were at the time rejected by the Secretary of State for "irregularities" - and the basis for her claims of "suppression" - have never been traced to actual living voters.

----------------------------------

Normally, these shenanigans would be taken in stride. Southern politics is southern politics. But she's pissed of BOTH sides and ESPECIALLY the Dems by waffling on '20/'22. Is she running for Senate in '20? Is she making a 2nd go for Gov in '22? That takes the oxygen from any other possible candidate. Let's just say, there are any number of Georgia dems who would be shedding only crocodile tears if she were 'disappeared'.

Okay, I give up. What’s the connection between the Gap Band and Stacey Abrams?

I was going to try to work the work 'Broad' from the second headline into this. In the 'girth' sense of the word.
