Trump asserts executive privilege as House Judiciary Committee prepares to hold Barr in contempt

EXCERPT:

President Donald Trump has asserted executive privilege over special counsel Robert Mueller's unredacted report as the House Judiciary Committee prepares to vote to hold his attorney general, William Barr, in contempt of Congress.

Faced with "blatant abuse of power" by Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., the president "has no other option than to make a protective assertion of executive privilege," the White House said Wednesday.

The committee vote and Trump's assertion of privilege represents a major escalation of the battle between congressional Democrats and the president. It will likely lead to a protracted legal war over Muellerís 448-page report on alleged obstruction of justice by Trump and Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election.

The Justice Department had told lawmakers Tuesday ahead of the session that it would recommend that Trump assert executive privilege to that material.

Members of the Judiciary Committee were expected to spend the Wednesday markup discussing the resolution to hold Barr in contempt, as well as a supporting 27-page report in which Democrats raised the prospect of impeachment as a result of their investigation relating to the Mueller probe.

In his opening remarks, Nadler said it was "not a step we take lightly," but rather the "culmination of nearly three months of requests, discussions and negotiations with the Department of Justice."

"In response to our latest good-faith offer, the Department abruptly announced that if we move forward today, it would ask President Trump to invoke what it refers to as a protective assertion of executive privilege on all of the materials subject to our subpoena. Just minutes ago, it took that dramatic step," Nadler continued.

The Democrats have gone completely insane with this, and the MSM is right there with them. Barr has already released Mueller's report with only about 2% redacted, things relating to grand juries that by law he can't release, and the Democrats authorized to view that have steadfastly refused to even look at the report, yet go on whinging about Trump and Mueller's report. Never let actual facts get in the way of a good political hit job.

Democrats have become a free range insane asylum. This hysteria is mounting, which makes me think they are terrified of what the IG report will say, and what Barr will do in response to it, so they have to discredit Barr.

I'd like to think their over the top lunacy will turn off the majority of voters, but my confidence in my fellow citizens is not that high sadly.

They don't even want a completely unredacted report released, even if the law did allow it, because that would take the wind out of the sails of their unchecked innuendo campaign, the escalation of which is all that they really want.

The Democrats are now holding an Attorney General in contempt of Congress because he refuses to violate the law. Think about that for a minute.

In thinking about it (took me much less than a minute actually) itís quickly obvious that democrats arenít upset about violating a law. Theyíre upset about not having dictatorial power.

And they're even more upset that President Trump sits in the Oval Office!

Indeed, they haven't been this upset since Republicans freed the slaves...

This is so stupid, you can't unredact material from a grand jury proceeding without a court ordered approval. This is all theatrics.

What's even more bizarre, the mainstream media is still playing along. Nadler, Schiff and the entire mainstream media crew shouldn't be allowed in front of a camera without their dunce caps in place.

:exactly:

The demoncraps are the ones violating the law.

Their entire attack against Trump with the Russia collusion :bs: has been from the get go.

Now they are holding Barr in contempt for refusing to hand them information that they have no legal right to have in the first place.
