Democratic Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot blamed Republicans for gun violence in her city Monday night, telling Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz to "keep our name out of your mouth," and posting a chart that claimed 60% of guns recovered in Chicago come from out of state.

Lightfoot's tweets came after a West Texas shooting Saturday killed 7 people and wounded 22 others. (RELATED: Donald Trump Condemns White Supremacy After Mass Shootings In El Paso, Texas, And Dayton, Ohio)

"60% of illegal firearms recovered in Chicago come from outside IL—mostly from states dominated by coward Republicans like you who refuse to enact commonsense gun legislation," Lightfoot said. "Keep our name out of your mouth."

Gun control doesn't work. Look at Chicago. Disarming law-abiding citizens isn't the answer. Stopping violent criminals—prosecuting & getting them off the street—BEFORE they commit more violent crimes is the most effective way to reduce murder rates. Let's protect our citizens. https://twitter.com/...272622209163270

Lightfoot's comments came after Cruz pointed out that Illinois' strict gun control legislation has not prevented carnage in Chicago, which is one of the most violent cities in the country.

Chicago has not had a Republican mayor since the early 1930s.

Right lefty, it's the GUNS not the SHOOTERS. Those inanimate objects sneak into your city and kill people all by themselves. Sorry not buying it.

I wish they would tell the truth just once. "If it wasn't for Republicans we could build a fence with the razor wire on the inside."

She sounds like the late mayor of Boston Thomas (Mumbles) Menino. He blamed NH lax gun laws. He was applauded for trying to solved Bostons gun violence.

Last year when Governor Sununu of NH blamed three MA cities for the source of most of the opioids in NH he chastised by the lapdog media. He was finger pointing instead of solving his problem.

You make it seem like a joke, but is it so hard to understand that they also furtively army crawl right into the palms of all those peaceful Chicagoans, blowing a secret sprinkling of uncontrollable itching powder on their index fingers for good measure? Do NOT underestimate the insidiousness of inanimate objects!

Someone should ask her who's fault it is that so many blacks and Hispanics in Chicago want to kill people. I know of places up in Wisconsin where just about everybody is armed but murders and drive-by shootings are extremely rare. Apparently, the problem is not the percentage of gun owners, but the percentage of gun owners who want to kill people. The percentage of gun owners that want to kill people is disproportionately high in Chicago. Why is that? Democrat policies?

It’s a “cultural thing” we’re not supposed to understand since we don’t have a “shared history”.

More T_G logic...

A "cultural thing" that has nothing to do with Republicans.

So I guess this means she has given up on trying to fix the problem then.

Fixing the problem would require addressing the root cause. Acknowledging the root cause would conflict with just about every leftist narrative out there.

I was reading the comment in an article about this mayor and her city. The person writing lived in Chicago and had been shot at. He took a record of the license of the car that shot at him. But nothing was done. It was his belief that the police have been ordered not to report shootings, so as to make the city appear safer.

I have no proof if what he claimed was true, but I have no reason to doubt it, either.

If only they were able to pass some gun or strict weapon laws. That would solve it

She is undermining the “gun control” argument. What she is proving is that despite legislation banning guns the criminals still find a way to get the guns and commit bad acts with them.

I agree, Lorri. Banning guns doesn’t solve the problem of gun violence. Maybe you should look into diminishing the contributing factors that lead to the violent behavior. I know it takes more effort than just banning guns. But at least it will actually help.

Just make it illegal to kill, illegal to rob, etc. that will solve it
