White House Declares War on Impeachment Inquiry, Claiming Effort to Undo Trump's Election

WASHINGTON ó The White House declared war on the House impeachment inquiry on Tuesday, announcing that it would not cooperate with what it called an illegitimate effort "to overturn the results of the 2016 election" and setting the stage for a constitutional clash with far-reaching consequences.

In a letter to House Democratic leaders, the White House said the inquiry had violated precedent and denied President Trump's due process rights in such an egregious way that neither he nor the executive branch would willingly provide testimony or documents.

"Your unprecedented actions have left the president with no choice," said the letter signed by Pat A. Cipollone, the White House counsel. "In order to fulfill his duties to the American people, the Constitution, the executive branch and all future occupants of the office of the presidency, President Trump and his administration cannot participate in your partisan and unconstitutional inquiry under these circumstances."

But in refusing to cooperate with what Mr. Trump on Tuesday called a "kangaroo court," the president risked ensuring the very outcome he would rather avoid. House Democrats made clear that his failure to comply with their demands for information could form the basis for its own article of impeachment.

"The White House should be warned that continued efforts to hide the truth of the president's abuse of power from the American people will be regarded as further evidence of obstruction," Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California said in a statement. "Mr. President, you are not above the law. You will be held accountable."

The letter came shortly after the White House blocked the interview of a key witness, Gordon D. Sondland, the United States ambassador to the European Union, just hours before he was to appear on Capitol Hill. A senior administration official said no other witnesses or documents would be provided, putting a "full halt" to cooperation.

The president's decision to resist across the board is itself a potentially precedent-setting move that could have far-reaching implications for the inquiry. Democrats believe that it bolsters their list of impeachable offenses, adding the stonewalling of Congress to the tally, but it could also deprive them of crucial witnesses and evidence they might need to lodge credible charges against the president.

Oh yeah, the DNC has declared Trump guilty before hearing one iota of evidence. Farting in bed is apparently impeachable under this clown show. SO why participate in their madness and provide credibility to it. If you want to impeach do so, vote on party lines, I am sure 1 or 2 Republican's will vote for it and you can claim bi-partisan support.

This is a good move by Trump.. Forces the Dem's to show their hand.

What gets me, is they keep thinking their stupid parlor games will work on Trump. He constantly calls their bluff.

Agreed, but I think that the DEMS are counting on the sheeple who watch the LSM to believe what they are peddling. This will backfire on the DEMS in a big way and when it does look for another excuse from the DEMS to hound the President.

Well on the upside, they are so intent in bringing down Trump they aren't implementing their ideology.

It's a win win. They piss off the rest of America. And they are harmless.

Rush always says that the best days for America are when congress is not in session. If they are so busy trying to impeach Trump, they can't do any thing else, so, in effect they are not in session. America wins!

The transcript is out there and has been for two weeks. They can come up with whistle blower 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, whatever. He asks publicly for China to investigate the Bidens, yeah? So what? No quid pro quo there. Biden's not even going to be the Dem nominee, but even if he were, that doesn't discount what dirty Joe did with his cokehead dishonorably discharged son.

They have nothing, there is nothing there, there can't be more investigation, because we know what happened, we have the transcript. They can put out a billion polls saying 99.99% of the public want Trump impeached, they have nothing, there is nothing impeachable, no evidence of wrongdoing.

They are going to try to say next "obstruction of justice" because Trump isn't complying with the "subpoenas", well that's because they aren't subpoenas. They have no legal binding, it's just a piece of paper with a request on it. A real subpoena would be legally binding and could not be ignored.

I'm beginning to think that even the democrat party that embraces socialism is too far right for today's media.
