Arizona Dem Lawmaker's Former Staffer Gets Jail Time After Assaulting Trump Supporter

Cortney O'Brien
Townhall
11/26/19

EXCERPT:

Last year, Daniel Zaroes Brito, former Legislative Assistant to U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ), attacked a man who was wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat and waving a sign that read, "Vote Jobs, Not Mobs–Vote Republican." The victim, Tucson resident Jonathan Sparks, suffered serious injuries in the assault.

Brito has now been sentenced to 12 days in the Pima County jail and three years probation.

"The assailant had jumped on to my ankle from behind," Sparks explained last November. "So I, knowing my ankle was broken into four pieces, turned around to grab and take the hat back and my hands latched on to the hat."

They both fell to the ground in the altercation. Through it all, Sparks recalled hearing the words, "Hitler" and "Nazi" and "Trump." Brito then came over on top of him and "over and over again" he hit him.

Sparks spent 20 hours in the hospital and had to undergo surgery.

12 days?? That's all? For violent physical assault that resulted in serious physical injury, ankle broken in four places, 20 hours in the hospital, including surgery?

12 measly days?

That's not justice. Give him 12 years.

12 days in jail is not nearly enough, 12 years would be more like it.

I certainly hope there is a civil suit to follow in which Mr. Brito's assets become Mr. Spark's assets. Compound ankle breaks are nasty and never seem to heal right

Yup. As for civil suits, bring it on. This closet totalitarian has permanently crippled someone. I've known people who had their ankles broken, it never gets back to normal. At the very least the victim will have a barometer more accurate than any weather service that will pain him every time the weather changes and every winter. If he can walk completely properly, he'll still get arthritis in the ankle.

Exactly. Ankle-bone breaks are almost always severe and permanent and life-changing, even if just a mild limp from then on. This "12-day" sentence is unbelievably insufficient. The bastard who attacked this innocent person needs a MUCH more severe punishment.
