Stop The Insane Overreaction

PowerLine
by John Hinderaker
Posted on March 20, 2020

Excerpt:

The economic devastation that is now playing out before our eyes is not caused by the Wuhan flu virus. In the last 21 days, approximately 162,000 Americans have died. Of that number, 150 were killed by the Wuhan virus. If governments at all levels had done nothing, other than eliminating regulatory barriers to the deployment of already-existing medicines, would the virus have killed more Americans? Yes, that is what flu bugs do. Would it kill more than the 13,000 or so who have died from this yearís seasonal flu virus? Who knows? More than the estimated 80,000 who were killed by the flu in the U.S. just two years ago? I doubt it: world-wide, it has killed only a little more than one-tenth that number.

The answers to those questions are speculative, but this is not: by dictating a virtual cessation of economic activity, governments at all levels, but especially state and local, are causing an economic collapse the likes of which, if it continues, we have not seen since the Great Depression, if ever. When has such a government-caused disaster comparably devastated a non-socialist country? Not often. The inflation of the Weimar Republic comes to mind.

I agree with the Wall Street Journal editorial that Scott quoted from this morning, but I think it is too mild.

"Here is a prediction: the deaths of Americans caused by the Wuhan flu bug will be dwarfed by the suicides committed by people whose lifeís savings have been wiped out, whose businesses have been bankrupted, whose jobs have been lost, and whose prospects have been blighted by the insane overreaction we now see from our governments. That overreaction must stop. Right now. Before it is too late, if it is not too late already."

100% of this crap is coming from the government, the deep state and the lamestream media.

Their purpose is to keep us all enslaved to them and to wreck Trump from freeing us from their grip.

I've been saying this all along.

They mean to wipe out small business and the little people.

I predict that these powers that be will see a backlash and resistance like they have never dreamed of.

Their days are numbered.

Yes, yes, yes! :hairpull:

Here in Guam we are now on 'lockdown' with only necessary businesses (food, gas, et) open and we're quarantining all arrivals who do no possess a negative test result within the past 72 hours for 14 days.

They want us set so far back that Biden and his socialists promising us free lives will sound great compared to the economic ruin they have created. They will move in with a program to "rebuild" the nation after this. That will be the next step and only those that comply with their green new deal concepts will be allowed access to the resources the government will control. This is like an abridged version of Atlas Shrugged playing out.

Like I suspected, the media is lauding Cumoís leadership.

Brian Stelterstupid just said the he ďis providing hope, but not fasle hope.Ē

Coumoís presser was all doom and gloom. Listening to him, the sky fell out.

Gawd I so loathe the media.

I am of the opinion that the LSM has blown up the story as they thought it could hurt President Trump. Like everything else they've tried, it's not working

"I accept full responsibility. If someone is unhappy, if somebody wants to blame someone, or complain about someone, blame me. There is no one else who is responsible for this decision." - Cuomo 2 days ago on the shutdowns.

Okaaaaay. I guess this is one of those transparently veiled references to Trump.

Did you watch Cuomo today? Unbelievable what this guy is calling for.

Stelterstupidís comment was also one of those transparently veiled digs on Trump.

Cuomoís presser was depressing if you believe this guy. The sky has completely fallen out in your world if you do.

And the economy sinks even lower because of it.

Itís downright shameful what the left is doing right now to our country.

Cuomo is an authoritarian, no doubt. This is one of the reasons I didn't vote for him, however sometimes a take-charge personality is what is called for.

And you think now is the time for that?

Forget the 300k people that have already died this year from other, more pressing causes - you think 396 deaths out of 38,138 known cases from a new strain of the flu with a 1.03% mortality rate (and steadily declining by the way) is sufficient reason to shut down businesses, cause an economic crisis and ruin peoples lives?

New York is not like West Virginia population wise. It is arguably the international capital of the world and is densely populated. Right now, reports are stating that half the cases in the United States are in NY, mostly in NYC. Stopping the spread is more pressing here than in other places.

I think this is true. Itís not the same in NYC and Bolivar, MO. Differences matter.

Also, the mortality rate will of course start declining when more are tested and isolation measures are followed. The measure of mortality under heavy lockdown isnít representative of actual potential.

Having said that, once again Iíll agree with Patriot on the point that we must be careful not to take this too far and for too long. Iíd give them until the end of the month to have something workable figured out where peopleís lives arenít totally disrupted like this. The consequences of that disruption will be greater in health and deaths than from coronavirus under controlled but not lockdown conditions.

Fair enough, but people should decide for themselves. They don't need the heavy hand of govt making decisions for them.

True, but if you listened to. Home it was all out panic and Trump needs to step in for the entire country and bail states out.

I loved the part where he said that the feds should pay 75% and states pay 25%. And l then went on to say that he and the states canít pay this 25% and the feds should the 25% for the states. I other, this should be fully funded by the feds.

It was a ridiculous presser. And the media are praising him for him leadership. So predictable.

Gee, could be that these types of viruses donít survive in warm weather?

Hmm, so tell me how this goes on for six or nine months?

This nonsense is all bull<censored>. Itís destroying our nation.
