Axis of Schmucks?

Quote

"It's the head guys who really tick me off. You dumb down at the top, so what does that do to the bottom? Who's going to stand up for us now? I just want someone smart to stand up and shout, 'Bullshucks!' They tell us we're going to war and no one's saying 'Bullshucks' loud enough. And the language! Listen to the language! 'Evil.' 'Evil'? 'Nexus of evil'? 'Evil-doer'? That's my favorite, 'evil-doer'! What's wrong with their vocabulary: couldn't they come up with 'schmuck'?"

With one hijacked plane heading for Washington, Clooney thinks Bush should have stayed and taken it like a man.

Quote

"What did Bush do on 9/11? He ran away and hid. Even Reagan knew more about leadership than that, and he was as bad a symbol of America as I can think of, off-hand. But at least he's been in enough cowboy movies to know he had to come out and stand on top of the rubble and be seen shaking his fist or something."

Kicking a Man While He’s Down...

"Charlton Heston announced again today that he is suffering from Alzheimer's."

Apologetic?

Quote

"I don't care. Charlton Heston is the head of the National Rifle Association; he deserves whatever anyone says about him."

He WAS a Liberal...

Quote

"They're killing me at the moment," he says. "I'm a liberal, and that's a dirty word in America these days."

Clooney also noted, he is a Democrat and a Liberal...

Quote

"I'm a Democrat. I'm a liberal. I grew up a liberal, I can't shake it."

Now he's a CONSERVATIVE:

Quote

"We are actually, all of us [Ocean's 12 Actors/Actress], conservative, not liberal, whatever … We are reflections of that society. And we're a product of it."

Bush Is Managing His Leadership Quite Well, Thank You.

Positive Attitude? We don't think so...

Quote

"I believe he thinks this [war against Iraq] is a war that can be won, but there is no such thing anymore."

"We can't beat anyone anymore."

"I can't see anything good coming from war."

Quote

"The risk of terrorism in the US will increase if we go to war with Iraq."

Quote

"It's a frustrating thing for us. We're trying hard not to be unpatriotic and some TV stations in America have said things about me for speaking out. But from an early age we are taught it is our patriotic duty to question the government."

You can say THAT again!

Quote

"I am just looking for someone in the news like Murrow did with McCarthyism, like Cronkite did with Vietnam and like Bernstein and Woodward did with Nixon. I'm just looking for someone in the news to ask difficult questions of this government. It's not my job to do that. I'm not intelligent enough to do it."

Looney Clooney

Clooney reckons the war in Iraq was all down to Monica Lewinsky’s frolics with Bill Clinton. He feels the famous stain-on-the-dress incident meant vice president Al Gore had to distance himself from Clinton, so losing the US election to George Bush.

Quote

“It’s ridiculous — Lewinsky performs a sex act on the president therefore we attack Iraq.”

The self appointed spokesman for the "ignorant masses".
Clooney, a lifelong Democrat, also underscored his opposition to the US-led war in Iraq.

Quote

"I stand by that. It was the dumbest thing that my country could have done. As an actor in the public eye, I have a responsibility. I see myself as a spokesman for all those who have the same opinion," he said, in comments published in German."

Debatably, Clooney Turns Cameraman

By Howard Kurtz
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, September 10, 2003; Page C08

BALTIMORE, Sept. 9 -- Forget the presidential candidate. The most famous person at the Democratic debate at Morgan State University here tonight was wielding a Panasonic video mini-camera, shooting footage of the spectacle.

His name: George Clooney.

The actor was in town to promote "K Street," his upcoming HBO series about Washington politics. But he was pressed into service shooting some last-minute pictures for the show even though, he declared, "I'm the worst cameraman on my team."

Quote

Clooney said he is trying to get a feel for what happens behind the scenes in politics. "I'm really interested in seeing how the process works," he said. "Everyone is a little suspicious right now in Washington" of the HBO program. Why? "For the same reason I'm always suspicious," Clooney said, meaning that the capital's power brokers fear that they may be portrayed in a negative light. The actor has had his share of run-ins with the tabloid press.

Clooney seemed particularly fascinated by the role of the news media. "I grew up around it," he said. "My father was an anchorman for 30 years." He conceded that his celebrity "makes it hard to be a voyeur because you become part of the spectacle." He paused. "Maybe that will get old. I've had enough movies bomb."

Clooney was accompanied by Democratic spinmeister and CNN commentator James Carville and by Stuart Stevens, a GOP ad maker who was part of President Bush's 2000 campaign and is a consultant to "K Street." Clooney skillfully deflected questions about tonight's candidate debate, although he acknowledged: "I'm a Democrat. I'm a liberal. I grew up a liberal, I can't shake it."

A reporter interviewing Clooney said she thought the worst thing about politics these days was the cynicism. She stopped herself and declared: "That's off the record."

But Clooney, who had turned the camera on her, chortled: "Too late now!"
