Give Terrorists Our Love and Compassion
Shortly after 9/11, Gere addressed an audience of rescue and police personnel and their families during the “Concert for New York.” The following was said over rising booing:

Quote

"In a situation like this, of course you identify with everyone who's suffering. [But we must also think about] the terrorists who are creating such horrible future lives for themselves because of the negativity of this karma. It's all of our jobs too keep our minds as expansive as possible. If you can see [the terrorists] as a relative who's dangerously sick and we have to give them medicine, and the medicine is love and compassion. There's nothing better."

After more booing:

Quote

"That’s apparently unpopular right now, but that’s alright."

Saddam's Not A Threatening Guy

Quote

"Bush's plans for war are a bizarre bad dream. There doesn't appear to be any sort of basis for any of this. I have a feeling something hidden is at work here that will someday see the light of day."

"I keep asking myself where all this personal enmity between George Bush and Saddam Hussein comes from. It's like the story of Captain Ahab and the great white whale from Moby Dick."

"We have to say stop, there's no reason for a war. At the moment Hussein is not threatening anybody."

"It'd be different if he was staring somebody down with a loaded gun in his hand. But there doesn't seem to be any indications whatsoever that this man poses an immediate threat to anybody."

Memo to Gere: NO ONE Provides More Assistance to the World than the U.S.

Quote

"America has never paid any attention to other people, so it's absurd for Bush to say that it's all in the best interests of the Iraqi people."

Speak For Yourself

Quote

"If the United States marches into Iraq without the backing of the United Nations, that will be done entirely without the backing of the American people."

Do the Math

At last count, there are roughly 300,000,00 people in the United States, so about 290,000,000 aren't saying no. That means that only approximately 3% of the people are saying "no." Oh, and Richard, America is republic, not a democracy anyway.

Quote

"Why is it when we have 10 million people in this country who say 'No', we still have a president who says 'Yes.' In a democracy, something's wrong here"
