Gephardt vows to defy Supreme Court

Gephardt promised to use Presidential Executive Orders to “overcome” what he expected to be a high court ruling that the University of Michigan’s racial preferences in its admissions policy were unconstitutional.

Gephardt promised, in other words, to use presidential authority to circumvent the U.S. Supreme Court in order to maintain racial preferences for key groups that disproportionately vote Democratic.

Addressing Project PUSH and the Rainbow Coalition and their leader Rev. Jesse Jackson
:

Quote

“WHEN I’M PRESIDENT, WE’LL HAVE EXECUTIVE ORDERS to overcome any wrong thing the Supreme Court does tomorrow….”

Loyalties lie with unions instead of national security
The Homeland Security bill was held up over protections for civil servants for the new department. Some believing that the ability to have flexibility in hiring and firing being crucial for security and others seeing it as anti-union. Gephardt's reaction was to whine, say house Republicans have a birth defect, and then say the matter should be decided in a bipartisan (change your opinion to match ours) way.

Quote

"This is a Republican leadership, at least in the House, that has a congenital defect. They cannot let anything come out of here that isn't down to the last word what they exactly want. I have never seen anything like this,"

Quote

"They are absolutists, they are idealogical, they are my way or the highway, every day on every issue. It's mindless. I mean, I have strong beliefs, but I have never known that I was right on everything. In fact, I have never known that I was right on anything. But I try my best, and that's what I've been doing."
