I see sites like this and I get that sinking feeling that you get when you find yourself, going 85 mph, passing a radar-gunned state trooper. Or that wonderful feeling when you tip your chair back and almost fall, but catch yourself at the last minute. It is that unmistakable feeling of inexorable doom and that's happening far too often these days.
Arguing with you folks is like romancing a brick, so I respectfully decline to do so and "hating" you only allows you to rent more space in my head than you already do, so I also bow out of that one. Instead, I choose to write and try to let you see that America stands for something that you apparently care absolutely nothing about.
Unlike England, France, or even Iraq, we are not a nation held together by a common religion or race (althought there are many of you would love to have it that way). We are a community by our common beliefs and not our differences, but those common beliefs are growing fewer by the hour.
The Republican Party had auspicious roots as the Party of Lincoln and was famous for freeing the slaves and standing up for a UNITED states, engaging in a bloody Civil War to ensure that. A party tha stood for the individual and for smaller government couldn't be all that bad. In fact, they were a great body of idealists committed to making their ideals into a reality as our country embraced the industrial revolution. Somewhere along the way, you musta got lost! I think that the turning point came during the Japanes internment camps, then the era of the House Committee on Un-American Activities. The McCarthy purges left a mark on our history that was the same color as his infamous "lists" and it was vowed that the divisive nature of that period would not be permitted to occur again. History, as always, repeated itself in grand fashion as George Bush and Ashcroft showed the ghost of McCarthy how to really do a purge--Texas style! Mass incarcerations of "enemy combatants", both citizens and foreigners, were locked up without counsel or due process. That antiquated document, the Constitution, said that "No PERSON shall be denied the due process of law" and the wisdom of the White House Counsel was that the Geneva Convention was "quaint" and did not apply, paving the way for AMERICAN troops to be tortured and jailed without protection by our ACTUAL enemies.
You have that largely red map of the US in the upper left corner of your site, apparently to show folks that your numbers are large and that your outnumber "liberals." Well, if every last one of the Amercan people believed that George Bush was honest and working for our best interest, it STILL does not make it any less of a LIE. They are coming for you. You have nothing to hide, you say, but many of the Gitmo "combatants" did absolutely nothing and had nothing to hide either. When they come for you, I will have gone before you and I will be there waiting to say, "I told you so." Say no to trickle down economics (only one thing rolls downhill) and say no to theocracy. Go to church and pray to your God, but make sure that your God is the official God of the Republicans, otherwise you will be branded a terrorist and may never see your Amerika again.
