Today on the Michael Medved Radio Show, actor Eric Roberts told listeners that it is the Republicans who are responsible for the July 16th deaths on ten people when 87-year old driver Russell Weller plowed through a Santa Monica, California farmer’s market.
It was an impromptu appearance on the show after Roberts e-mailed Medved, blaming republican cutbacks for the deaths of the ten victims. Roberts was apparently motivated to email Medved after he allegedly said Roberts was stupid for supporting democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich.
When Eric Roberts joined the show, he insisted that he begin by reading a statement, pleading that even though a professional actor with more than 100 film credits, he was not articulate enough to ad lib it. Medved agreed and let him read his left-wing political script for what must have been several minutes. The statement, which sounded like a campaign speech for Dennis Kucinich, was replete with attacks on republicans. Roberts denied that he was a Kucinich supporter.
When Medved mentioned that they would soon open up the lines to callers, Roberts timidly protested, saying that he did not want to have any discussions with callers. He continued one-on-one with Medved.
So, why were Republicans behind the wheel in Santa Monica that horrific day? Simple, says Roberts. Due to the $7 billion a day we spend on the Iraq war (his wife later corrected the figure to only $1 billion), there was no money left for programs to get older drivers off the road! Yes, he really said this.
It Gets Better
After some political discussion about big corporations, the war machine and other liberal rants, they went to commercial break.
When they came back, Roberts was no longer on the phone. Instead a woman greeted Medved. Apparently, Roberts was so afraid that he put his wife, Eliza Roberts, on the line instead. He was in the room, but would not come on the air. She proceeded to continue were Eric left off.
And Better Yet!
As if it was not comical enough to hide behind his wife, on came his mother-in-law, Lila Garrett to speak for him as well! As the Southern California Chair of the Kucinich Campaign, she took every opportunity to campaign for him.
Roberts later came back on the line and answered a couple questions from callers, but letting the women do most of the talking.
And, we’re supposed to believe he wrote that statement all by himself? Right. We think there may have had a woman's touch.
