‘I would’ve killed him if I had to’: Mother of 3 shoots home invasion suspect

FOX Carolina

By Meredith Digital Staff, WHNS

Updated Nov 2, 2018 | Posted on Nov 2, 2018

excerpt:

A mother of three in South Carolina said she used her firearm to protect her family when a stranger tried to enter her house.

Ashley Jones told FOX Carolina she heard someone banging on the door of her home in Anderson County around 6 a.m. Thursday.

She looked out the window and didn't see anyone, so she asked who was there. No one answered her, but she heard people speaking in front of the house. Next, Jones said she called 911 and grabbed her gun.

As she walked downstairs with the gun, she said she saw a strange man in a red shirt knocking on her window by the front door.

“I yelled, 'I have a gun, I will shoot you, get away from my house,'” Jones said.

She said the man and a second person then went to the back of the house and tried to enter through the back door. Then, they went to the garage before coming back to the front door.

That's when Jones said the man kicked in the front door, and she pulled the trigger. She said the bullet hit the man, and he ran off.

“Something just came over me, and I got calm. My heart slowed down and I got focused. I told myself if he comes in here, you can’t let him get past your doorstep. You have three young children to protect."

- Ashley Jones

Jones said she didn't hesitate, and if the man would've continued into the home, she would have fired again.

“I would’ve killed him if I had to.”

Jones said she was initially hesitant to be a gun owner and hoped she never had to use it. She took steps to train with the firearm and taught her children to avoid it. But after the events that unfolded Thursday morning, Jones said she is glad to be a gun owner.

"If I didn't have a weapon, I wouldn’t have been able to fight him off," Jones said.

Good for her! I doubt they'll catch him, he'll be too scared to go to a hospital. Just hope she hit him with the bullet in a place that hurts a lot and bleeds a lot!

He'll have to go to a hospital or else bleed to death, won't he? A bullet wound isn't like scraping your knee while roller skating. It doesn't just "go away" if you ignore it.

Unless, of course, he was just barely grazed. Let's hope it was a good solid hit in a vital area.

Apparently they nabbed the idiot who broke down the door since they say his injuries are not life threatening and the other two will face charges.

That's the kind of person I want on my team. B)

Too bad that she wasn't aiming well enough for the vitals, fired more shots or had used a shotgun?

Great that she did choose to open fire though. :)

Yup, she stopped the threat.

My shotgun is 3rd in line for home defense. I just want to stop the threat, preferably without having to replace or repair drywall.

I remember reading an article some years ago about a guy who had a double barreled 12 gauge for defense. Guy got into his home, and he let him have it with both barrels. He said cops came, ruled it self defense, no charges, coroner carried the body away...but no one ever told him about the cleanup. He said he not only had blood everywhere but pieces of the perps bones and lungs embedded in the drywall behind where he was shot, including holes in the drywall.

Yeesh, time to call a crime scene cleaner.

A relative of mine, her best friend was shot in the back by her husband, who emptied a 40 cal Glock into her. My relative was the one who had to go in and arrange for the cleanup while the victim's kids stayed elsewhere. Her description of it wasn't pretty, something you never really get shown in movies and TV is just how much blood spatter you can get from something like this.

Homeowner's insurance would likely pay for that?
