Why The Right Should Start Taking Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Seriously

Article:

Earlier this week, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez put up a tweet so mind-numbingly stupid that simply calling it "factually incorrect" would be an insult to the word "incorrect." As is to be expected in the social media world, folks on the right ripped the incoming congresswoman to shreds for it.

Here were some of the typical responses: "This is factually incorrect!" "We cannot have someone this stupid in the government!" "This is what happens when we elect someone with no experience." "Sure, this message is popular. Too bad it's all wrong."

Learning From The Left's Mistakes

Take a moment and look at those responses again. Do they look familiar? They are the exact same arguments the politico class made against then-candidate Donald Trump for two straight years, right up until the point he carpet-bombed Hillary Clinton on election night.

Yes, the tweet was incorrect. Yes, it would be nice if the people in our government had some actual knowledge about the things they talk about. Still, it is critical for folks on the right to avoid the mistakes made by the left. We must learn from how they treated (and treat) President Trump and endeavor not to make the same mistakes.

Do not underestimate this woman, and do not think your savage mockery of her stupidity will be an effective tool to stop her. It won't. It will instead be personalized by her supporters, creating an army that will lay down and die for her (or at least vote for her), just like the army Trump has. You should be afraid of Ocasio-Cortez. Be much more afraid than you are.

Through thick and thin, up and down, one thing about elections in America has never changed: you cannot win them without non-political people. It is the undecided masses who decide elections. They do not watch YouTube videos of Milton Friedman breaking down economics, and they're unimpressed that you graduated summa cum laude. They may only glance at the nightly news for a few minutes, but they will get on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

That can be difficult to accept, especially for legacy media families who grew up with Walter Cronkite as the most powerful news source in America. Today, social media is Walter Cronkite. Candidates like Ocasio-Cortez who know and embrace this will have a leg up on the rest of the nation.

It is human nature to over-inflate one's importance. We all do this. We pretend whatever we are doing is uniquely important and valuable. Doctors do this, but it is not reserved for the white-collar professions. Want to hear about the glory and importance of a man's job? Talk to a cattle rancher. He'll happily oblige you with all the reasons why his career is uniquely difficult while also letting you know he's extremely important to America itself.

Now, he's not wrong. Ranchers are great and important people. My folks have a ranch. The point is that he and everyone else over-inflate their lot in life as a way of validating themselves.

Nowhere is this more apparent than political punditry. Every single person who talks politics for a living is convinced he knows the inside scoop, has the pulse of the American people, and has some special control over the outcome of the next election. They don't. The next national election (and the next hundred after that) will come down to one thing: Who do the relatively non-political people prefer?

I get the principle behind the theory, but comparing OC and Trump is like comparing the woman who shot the guy in the wrong apartment to Zimmerman and Trayvon.

The difference is Trump is not actually stupid. And neither are most Americans.

I think it's important to point out that democrats and progressives are not Americans. They are anti-Americans.

The author has a legitimate point. Everybody knows AOC is hilariously stupid. Hell, even the Democrats know she's stupid. But she was elected, wasn't she? Clearly stupidity doesn't prevent Democrats from being elected. In fact, it's voter stupidity that gets Democrats elected in the first place.

And yes, that's very scary.

Nope, not a chance. All those people who voted for her are even more stupid and ignorant than she is.

Her election is the perfect storm of democrat politics. She is from a district that is overwhelming democrat. The idiot who held the seat took it for granted that he would win and so he didn’t even show up for debates. If he had maybe he could have slapped her down right away. However, he was also an old white guy and the district is mostly minorities. The promise of free stuff coming from a POC was probably too much to overcome. She also is very social media savvy and has a large SM following. As bad as that is, this is the future of how news will be obtained. So, even though she is as dumb as a bag of hammers, her district is full of hammers also. That is very scary and we are looking at a future of socialist hammers voting for our next leaders.

Although, I think even mainstream democrats know they may have a tiger by the tail in AOC. Jessica Tarlov, resident stupid democrat pundit on Fox, keeps saying – No. no, AOC is not the future of our party! It is the republicans who keep giving her all the press. Completing ignoring that Tom Perez himself said AOC was the future of their party.

POC

(That was probably a misspelling, but in case it wasn’t) Is that POC as in Piece Of Chit?

Yea, he nails and we should be afraid of her. She is very scary and not in the same way that the crazy left says they are afraid of Trump. For everything that Trump is supposed to be, NAZI, colluding with Russians, meanie, racist, and all that, AOC is actually stupid and believes in the socialist cr@p she preaches. And so do a lot of other stupid people in this country right now.

Socialism/communism has killed more people that any other belief system ever. It always starts out with rainbows and unicorns and ends up with people starving and being killed in mass numbers. So, yes, I am very afraid of her and Bernie and all of ignorant people who think that somehow this time they will do it the right way. There is no right way to do socialism! It is fundamentally flawed.

What we do know about socialism is that the elite NEVER live as socialists themselves. They live grand, as seen with Uncle Bernie -- fancy cars, fancy houses, private planes, the best of everything for themselves. We can expect the same from AOC.

And how many times have we seen those socialists with a bit of power keep preaching the wonders and benefits of socialism...while their hand is out for more of our hard-earned dollars. They are doing fine, Bernie in his big houses and jet plane, Cortez with all the donations in her coffers and still a hand out for rent money for when she gets to DC. They always seem to be doing just fine. It's those that vote for them, and the rest of us, that will suffer grave consequences if their socialist utopia dreams come true. And then all Americans will know that socialism is a horrible thing to live under, and that the utopia part of the dream never shows up.

The OP pretty much nails it.

I’m not buying it.

Trump was successful because he proposed something people longed for. Make America Great Again was a fantastic turn of phrase that gave real hope. It’s for all of us.

AOC doesn’t promote or promise something that all of could want. On a fraction of us could or would want her socialism. So it’s fundamentally divisive from the get-go, personality aside.

It was similar. Trump appealed to the fears of some his supportes and 'trumpted' answers borne of ignorance, whether purposeful or not. It was apparent to anyone actually paying attention, which is why the depth of appeal was miscalculated. That's where I think the OP was on the mark. NOTE: I am not saying ALL of his supporte are/were naïve or ignorant rubes, just so we're clear. It was enough of a cushion to put him over the top and still keep him there.

I don't believe Cortez has or can even generate the sort of fanatical following that Trump possesses, though she is still pretty young. By fanatical following I mean the 'always and forever' Trumpers who won't believe anything negative about him, even when it comes his own lips.

So if not ALL Trump supporters are naive/ignorant rubes, what percentage are we talking about?

Nonetheless, Trump’s appeal was simple and based on knowledge rather than ignorance. It was “MAGA”, because your side (spearheaded by Obama) went the opposite, globalist direction, yielding America to others without looking after her citizens’ best interest like they’re sworn to do.

THAT was the Trump appeal, not some fringe element seeing him as a white supremacist. I’m fact, more blacks and Latinos voted for him than Bush or Romney or McCain.

« Appealed to the fears... »

You just summed up the entire Dem platform.

Homophobe.

Racist.

Islamaphobe.

Misogynist.

War on women.

Wants to kill your Grandmother.

And on...

And on...

And on.

But please, keep it up. Please NEVER realize why Trump was elected.

Please.

I wasn't talking about white supremacists. The OP drew parallels between the appeal and acceptance of Cortez and Trump, despite their both making comments that demonstrate their ignorance about government matters. Look, Trump himself made the comment he could "stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody" and not "lose any voters.". He was absolutely correct. His supporters will defend anything he does and turn on those who disagree with him, as Ammon Bundy has learned the hard way.

Exactly, Hugo’s daughter, Maria Gabriela Chavez of Venezuela is estimated to be worth $4.2B. She’ not scanning garbage dumps for dinner.

This is perhaps off the topic of the article, but the Democratic Socialists ideology and stated goals are derived entirely from Marx. They use Nordic social democrats as an example of their goals, but they are not social democrats in the least, and this claim is an outright lie. They are Marx communists. They are not socialists, nor are they social democrats. They are Marx communists. Ocasio-Cortez is just an ignorant, useful tool for them, as are all the fools that follow their preaching. The problem is that more and more young people are attracted to this destructive drivel.

Their website is filled with angst ridden, ignorant, high school level pseudo-intellectual nonsense that essentially paraphrases Marx, written to appeal to folks with less than average judicious thought. They want to implement Marx's plan, which is to take a capitalist society towards communism in steps: Nationalize - Socialize - Equality of outcome - Communism.

Step one is to nationalize industries, and they are clear in that this is their goal which will be achieved by winning elections, creating legislation to tax and burden industry, then regulating them into social and economic compliance. Additionally, they consider this a global endeavor, wherein all borders must be eliminated as to best equalize wealth and social outcomes. And so their puerile philosophy continues; aligned with Marx, and stated with pseudo-intellectual emotional appeals.
