'Fun Run' Participants Unaware They Were Contributing To AOC Campaign

Washington Examiner

by Anna Giaritelli

April 28, 2019 05:57 PM

Excerpt:

Participants in a "fun run" organized by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in her Queens district Saturday did not know their registration fees went to the freshman New York Democrat's campaign rather than her environmental agenda.

Runners who took part in the 5k through Astoria Park told the New York Post they believed each of their $30 ticket fees were going toward advancing the "Green New Deal" plan. She raised more than $11,000.

“It’s to help the environment. To support the Green New Deal,” one woman said. “It’s a good cause.”

“I think it’s really for this particular New Green Deal,” said one man. “No question.”

“The site says it’s to benefit her environmental plan,” said another person. “If it is going to go directly to her campaign they should have said so.”

Ocasio-Cortez's Facebook page dubbed the post-Earth Day event as a way to give toward "U.S. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez & the Green New Deal." Another website dubbed it as "a Family Fun Run supporting U.S. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal on the Saturday following Earth Day.”

At the starting line, Ocasio-Cortez, 29, told the 400 or so people people attending: "We’re getting together for our own health, for our planet’s health … and to fight for the Green New Deal together."

I wonder if her supporters know that when they vote for her they’re voting for Chavez.

Hmm paying money to participate in something you can literally do for free, what a great idea. Personally I just walked 2 and a half hours covering just over 7 miles today. Didn't cost me a penny and i had "fun" doing it. I walked around my neighborhood, saw great neighbors and listened to good music and even got a red neck sunburn. So WIN WIN WIN!

Stupid is as stupid does.

Supporting the green new deal, or supporting an elected airhead, same thing. Makes you a fool either way.

If you support the GND, you deserve to be conned.

'Mistakes were made'.

Wasn't that the quaint Clinton euphemism back in the day?

A former coworker, who is a fellow geologist I'm disappointed to state (though not a very good one, if I may say so), went on some screed on FB about how we needed to support this.

It took all my effort to continue scrolling and not pause to comment... It would have been ugly :D

SUCKERS! :lol3:

Really? Why does a "plan" of any type need to be funded? It's a frikkin' plan to steal people's money under the phony guise of environmenalism to be written on a sheet of paper? How much does that cost? Didn't any of these morons ever stop to think about it before they handed over $30 to these politicians for the "privilege" to run in a foot race?

It's no wonder how and why such an idiot as AOC got elected because her constituentes are also idiots. Stupidity like that ought to hurt them, but it actully hurts everyone else more because we also have to pay for their stupid acts.

:exactly:

So does anyone who gives any money to any "awareness" charities.

No money goes to aid or cure victims for those. It's a scheme to collect money to make whoever does those rich as they spend only a tiny portion of the money collected to make others "aware" by placing a few ads here and there about the cause and they pocket all of the rest of the money.

It ought to be illegal.

Well, look at it this way. At least they handed over their money willingly, even if a con was involved. The usual AOC approved socialist approach is to take your money from you willingly or not, for the greater good, now hand it over or we will send men with guns to take it (IRS).

These people have the right to spend their money on any idiotic thing that crosses their paths. But AOC is showing her true colors by lying yet again. And yes, it is a lie to con the runners like that. She is just the next crooked democrat to come along, albeit, not a very discreet one. If she lies like that only this far into her first term, she's good to go for the Bernie bunch.

And the corollary, it's morally wrong to allow a sucker to keep their money.

Sometimes these events are for actual charities or foundations. I've biked in a few for things like American Cancer Society. But yeah, one of my workouts is "Secret Stairs of La Mesa". 240 steps connecting 3 streets. No cost, no crowds. It's perfect. It also turns my legs into rubber after a few runs up and down. Which is the whole idea.

I do the 5K walk/runs for various organizations too. It’s fun and it’s for a good cause. Back in the day the walkathons were 30 kilometers or 20 miles. I did a few of those. I guess they lowered it because they couldn’t get enough participants.
