Trump Urges Reopening Of Schools, Emphasizes Choice: 'The Money Should Follow The Student' (VIDEO)

President Trump held a press conference on Thursday and urged the reopening of schools but said it would be left to the governors.

One of the best aspects of his talk was that he emphasized school choice and said that the money should follow the student.

This would mean that parents would have the option of sending their children to a private school or a charter school.

School choice is extremely popular with parents.

FOX News has details:

Trump wants $105B for schools added to next coronavirus stimulus bill

President Trump on Thursday urged schools across the country to reopen amid the coronavirus pandemic as long as they can practice good hygiene and social distancing — adding that the White House is asking Congress to pledge $105 billion to schools as part of next coronavirus stimulus bill.

The president, who has for weeks been pressuring schools to reopen and “get our economy going,” added during a coronavirus briefing at the White House that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will release new guidelines to ensure the safe reopening of schools.

CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield has recently emphasized that his agency’s guidelines were only recommendations, and he urged schools to find ways to reopen while minimizing the spread of COVID-19…

Trump said that if schools don’t reopen, he wants parents to get the funding to send their kids to public or private schools that will reopen.

“The money should follow the student,” he said, adding that the funding should go to private, charter or religious schools if public institutions don’t open.

He should continue making this point.

In California I understand that the teacher's union is making such a stink about class size and the danger to the teachers while at the same time demanding that ALL charter schools be shuttered.

Sending children to the charter schools would EASE class sizes and allow children to get back to the task of learning, BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT THE TEACHER'S UNION WANTS, THEY WANT CONTROL.

Simple and effective....

Something like, each student has a “credit of “x” learning dollars”. It can’t be cashed out and is only redeemable by accredited educational institutions. Parents get to vote with their feet.

The states would be responsible for public school infrastructure and transportation of students to any and all educational institutions.

The “money” for the students would come from whatever grants the Fed was sending the states From the DOEd. Perhaps compel the states to match a certain portion by tying the amount to other funding.

I would expect the dems to viciously oppose this - this is one of their corner stones for creating multi-generaational underclasses to control.

Here, once again, the teachers' unions engage in no discussion of medical facts.

There are no known cases of a child getting a teacher sick or a child getting parents sick. This is based on a large number of students in Sweden and other places.

It's infuriating that we are not allowed to fight this virus with all knowledge and information that we have. It's criminal that politicians make decisions without any basis in fact.

Yep. They are trying to make it hurt to be a Trump supporter.
