Republican Support for Wearing Masks Leaps to 58% After Trump Wears One in Public for First Time

But it's totally not a cult

he majority of Republican voters now support wearing a face covering in public, a new poll suggests, nearly two weeks after President Donald Trump donned one in public for the first time.

Three out of four survey respondents, including 58 percent of Republicans, said they strongly or somewhat favor requiring Americans to wear face masks in public when they're around other people, according to the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll.

Nearly all Democrats, or 89 percent, said they were in favor of mask requirements.

The data shows an overall shift in perspective regarding the use of face coverings, which has become an increasingly politicized issue in the months since the coronavirus outbreak erupted in the U.S. in March.

More Republicans are wearing masks now than ever before, the AP-NORC survey indicates.

An Axios/Ipsos poll conducted in mid-July found that 45 percent of GOP voters said they wear facial coverings "all the time." This figure had increased in just a matter of weeks, as 35 percent of Republicans said they were wearing masks in a poll from late June.

The apparent change in attitude comes almost two weeks after Trump wore a face mask for the first time in front of media since the pandemic began. During a July 11 visit to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland, Trump donned a navy blue mask emblazoned with the presidential seal as he visited wounded service members and health care workers.

I don't trust or believe anything from Newsweak as being the truth, especially any surveys or polls.

Only a gullible sap would. :coolshades:

According to the poll released by the people that make polls. I can tell you that my position hasn't changed.

Absolute garbage.  Don't believe a word of it.

I live in Austin, TX, which is the most liberal city in the state and probably within a thousand miles.  I hang out with musicians and a large group of folks who like live music.

Among us are a wide variety of political flavors from conservative to libertarian to centrists to leftists to socialists and even some who claim to be communist.

And when we go to a bar to see one of the bands or gather at a friend's house to hang out and here some of them jam, NO ONE WEARS A MASK.

They'll have one on when they enter if it's required, but the moment they're inside, it comes off.

VIRTUALLY EVERYONE, INCLUDING THE LEFTISTS, SOCIALISTS AND COMMUNISTS, KNOWS MASKS ARE NOTHING MORE THAN A PROP AND ARE TOTALLY USELESS.

Like that man said, it's about removing the humanity from the person. When I am on patrol I do not wear a mask unless I know the person has Wuhan. Because facial expression and humanization is critical to what I do.

I don't give the lefties socialists and communists that much credit (because they're dumb lemmings), but I agree with the rest of your post.

Just look at our resident lefties here on RN as a prime example.

I'm just referring to the ones out here in loony, liberal Austin that go see live bands.

I know there are plenty of leftards out there who buy into this crap.

It's like underwear for your face.

I'm not wild about wearing one either, but in a crowd I'd rather be with the mask wearers than other coughing, sneezing minions.

I am 'against' them as far as not wearing one unless I have no option to.  I am more paranoid now about normal little coughs and sneezes that I make in public for fear of being hated by those around you.  Two weeks ago I was at Lowes and right as I walked to the checkout, suddenly I needed to cough a couple times.  You definitely feel people's eyes burning holes through you and no one wants to hear "Sorry, I choked on my spit...I don't have the plague."

When the article talks about the percentages who always wear masks, are they including the millions of us who only wear the stupid worthless things because we have no choice, our worthless socialist governor having mandated it?

Just curious.

Inslee should have just compelled us to wear the masks.

Anyway, polls are not news.  They are published to influence not inform and this one is particularly useless.

Yup. I stopped paying much attention to polls years ago.

And yes (to any dopey leftists who might be reading along), that includes polls that say what I'd like to believe.
